As most of you already know, there has been two first responders, from the City of Lubbock, who were killed while working an accident scene. Also, another Lubbock firefighter was struck and critically injured - fighting for his life. Chaplain Chris Hale is in Lubbock working with the departments affected by this tragedy. He wanted me to send out a message to our Texas Chaplains, requesting prayers for all involved - especially the families. He also wanted everyone to know about a joint Fire & Police Candlelight Service on 1/5/2020 at 1900 hours. The location of this service will be at the Lubbock Public Safety Memorial - 6601 Quaker, Lubbock, TX. It would be great if you can attend. If you cannot, please lift up our brothers and sister in prayer during this time.

Federation of Fire Chaplains - Home

The summer is winding down so that means the annual conference for the Federation of Fire Chaplains is just around the corner. Preparations for the conference are going well and we are looking forward to seeing everyone in Fort Worth, Texas. Fort Worth is the place it all started about Fifty years ago when Ed Stauffer, became Chaplain for the Fort Worth Fire Department. Subsequently, ten years later in 1978, The Federation of Fire Chaplains was formed.

If you have not registered for the conference, please do so. It is important to register so that they can make adequate preparations. Similarly, if you have not made hotel reservations, please do so. We have received word that there are no vacancies on Thursday, October 18 (the day the conference ends). If you have made travel arrangements to return home after that date you can check back with the hotel and see if a room becomes available or make arrangements for the additional days of your stay in Texas. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

All information regarding the conference is at www.firechaplains.org

If you are unable to make this year’s conference please plan to join us in California for 2019.

May God continue to Protect and Bless each of you,

Good read for First Responders

The tones scared the sh*t out of me.  I had managed to enter a deep sleep that night after a busy day of calls and training.  The dorm had been eerily quiet up to that point, in a firehouse that was normally getting hammered at night.  The jarring voice of the dispatcher caused an adrenaline dump th...

The terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 left 343 New York firefighters dead. Retired FDNY Lieutenant James J. O’Donnell survived that horrific day but attended over 150 memorial services for those that passed. Now, he shares the lives of 10 heroes who perished in the attacks, as told by their parents in “Sons of Valor, Parents of Faith.” “The crashing of two planes into the Twin Towers not only dismantled the buildings but hundreds of families as well. Mothers and fathers were left in the rubble of these attacks, searching for husbands, brothers and sons. Some of them never received answers nor recovered the bodies,” O’Donnell said. “The parents’ spiritual and emotional journeys can serve as an example of faith rising over despair.” “Sons of Valor, Parents of Faith” serves as a memorial to the lives and careers of 10 first responders who perished on 9/11. O’Donnell presents a unique and personal look at how the parents of these heroes were consoled by the FDNY Counseling Services Unit and the role that they played in helping them manage their grief in the aftermath of a national tragedy. In their own words, these faithful families share their sons' bravery and sacrifice so that it will never be forgotten. These parents not only recount the lives of their children but their own road to healing. O’Donnell takes a special look at the role faith played in the lives of those that perished and their families. “Sons of Valor, Parents of Faith is meant to help readers understand the stress, hardship and sometimes devastation that parents and families of first responders face,” O’Donnell said. “I also hope that readers realize the efforts and sacrifices of the FDNY and their families. Not only on that day but in the ensuing months and years.” Available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Westbow Press.
