On Thursday night, the Nassau-Suffolk School Boards Association held their annual business meeting and awards ceremony. The entire Board of Education and Dr. Oโ€™ Hara attended in order to celebrate Board of Education President Philip Dineenโ€™s acceptance of the 2026 School Board Service Award. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Mr. Dineenโ€™s retirement from the school board after 12 years of service. There was also a dynamic presentation made by featured speaker Dr. Joe Sanfelippo. He spoke about the importance of relationships, building systems, and fostering trust in your school governance team. Grateful for the work of this organization and even more thankful to continue to serve as its Suffolk Vice President through the 2026-2027 school year. A wonderful night! ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ“š๐ŸšŒ

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave service members that made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Their courage, selflessness, and dedication to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten. We also extend those same sentiments to the family and friends that they have left behind. This Memorial Day, may we reflect with gratitude, remember with honor, and cherish the freedoms we are privileged to enjoy because of our heroes. America is the land of the free because of the brave! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ | John 15:13

Celebrating the accomplishments of our students has been one of the most rewarding experiences that I have had during the nearly ten years that I have served on the Board of Education. These past few days have brought about two events in which our Islip High School Buccaneers were recognized. It was a pleasure to attend the induction ceremonies of our honor societies on Wednesday night and then the โ€œBreakfast of Championsโ€ earlier this morning. From commemorating their academic excellence and then shouting out their display of kindness, generosity, and hard work, Iโ€™m so very proud of these students. Congratulations! ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ†๐Ÿงฉ

Please visit www.islipufsd.org for an important letter from Dr. Oโ€™ Hara, Superintendent of Schools, regarding the communityโ€™s rejection of the proposed 2026-2027 school year budget. The letter addresses our communityโ€™s concerns and outlines the next steps in the process of developing a new budget for next year.

On another note, I would like extend my congratulations to Laura Rogacki and Hilary Crowe Breig on their re-election and election, respectively, to the Board of Education. Looking forward to working with them to ensure our schools remain committed to excellence! ๐Ÿงฎ๐Ÿ“—๐Ÿซ

As residents and community members cast their ballots today for the 2026-2027 school year budget, I urge them to please support this budget! Although our school district is proposing to pierce the allowable tax levy, this budget will maintain all programs, extracurricular activities, and work towards financial stability for the coming years. Among these sustainable initiatives are appropriate class sizes, access to Advanced Placement coursework, professional development opportunities, career and technical education, extensive mental health supports, infrastructure upgrades, and more. Through collaboration and teamwork with the school districtโ€™s bargaining units, our district is committed to finding common ground which will lessen the impact of this budget on all stakeholders. This has been a team effort, so letโ€™s get it across the finish line! Vote โ€œYesโ€, today, from 6am-9pm at Islip High School! ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธโœ”๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿฝ๐ŸŽ
