This week, Chhaya staff joined organizers and community development leaders from across the country at National CAPACD’s 2026 Building CAPACD Convention to share lessons and learn from one another.

Special shoutout to our very own Tenying Yangsel and Jess Balgobin for leading “Forgotten Histories in AA & NHPI Spaces: Understanding Indo-Caribbean and Tibetan Communities in New York City” and bringing these often-overlooked histories into the national conversation.

Chhaya is hosting a free Housing and Community Resource Fair on Saturday, August 15, from 2–5 PM at the Leo Kearns Parking Lot in South Richmond Hill.

Renters, homeowners, and people interested in buying a home can meet with housing and government agencies, speak with housing experts, and get information about tenant protections, the home-buying process, Chhaya’s services, and other resources.

There will also be music and children’s activities. Services will be available in English, Bangla, Punjabi, and Spanish. The event is free and open to all.

⚠️ Heads up, New York City! Another round of severe weather is expected tomorrow, with heavy rain that could lead to flooding. Conditions may be similar to what we experienced this past Saturday, so now is the time to prepare.
 
✅ Get flood barriers, sandbags, or flood alarms if you need them.
✅ Never drive or walk through flooded streets.
✅ If you live in a basement apartment, be prepared to move to higher ground immediately if flooding develops. Do not wait.
