This week, we’re joining partners across the city to protect immigrant small businesses.

Small businesses are a huge part of what makes our neighborhoods feel like home. They are the restaurants, shops, groceries, salons, and storefronts our families rely on every day.

But many immigrant small business owners are under pressure from rising rents, unfair lease terms, and few protections.

This Week of Action is about making sure the businesses that serve our communities can stay open and stay in our neighborhoods.

We’re calling for stronger protections for immigrant small businesses across Queens and NYC.

Chhaya was proud to be a charity partner at Gov Ball this year!

We spent the weekend connecting with attendees, sharing resources, and talking with New Yorkers about housing stability, tenant protections, and the fight to pass COPA.

A special thank you to Council Member Shanel Thomas-Henry ( ) for stopping by our table. We’re grateful for her sponsorship of COPA and excited to keep building the support needed to pass it this year.

Thank you to everyone who visited us and showed love!

Nepali Bhanchha Ghar’s recognition as one of The New York Times’ 100 Best Restaurants in New York City is a proud moment for Jackson Heights.

For Chhaya, this is also a reminder of why our small business work matters. Restaurants like Nepali Bhanchha Ghar are part of the social and economic fabric of our neighborhoods. They create jobs, preserve culture, build community, and make our commercial corridors feel like home.

We’re grateful to have supported Yamuna Didi over the years, and we’re proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition alongside her and the community that helped make Nepali Bhanchha Ghar what it is.

Congratulations to Yamuna Didi and the entire Nepali Bhanchha Ghar team.

Tenants at 89-20 161st Street are fighting back against neglect and displacement.

After more than a year on rent strike, they’re demanding the repairs they deserve, lasting affordability, and a future rooted in tenant and community control, not another abusive landlord.

The tenants united will never be defeated.
