Registration is now for A Day for Artists, happening August 21, 2026, at The MAX in Meridian, Mississippi.

Designed to empower, educate, and equip Mississippi artists of all kinds, this one-day event will bring creatives together to learn, connect, and explore new opportunities. Attendees will have the chance to participate in artist-led studio activations, build relationships with fellow artists, and connect directly with statewide and national arts organizations offering resources like grants, residencies, professional development, and employment opportunities.

The afternoon includes immersive activations throughout The MAX, plus opportunities to explore Meridian through a downtown mural tour and visit to the Meridian Museum of Art.

Registration is $15, and scholarship opportunities are available.

Join us in Clarksdale for the final Across the Table event of the year: Abundance — a multi-sensory experience for body, mind, and soul presented by Griot Arts.

Part of Clarksdale Cultural Capital, this free community gathering will feature food by Chef Enrika Williams, art therapy led by Pineapple with Purpose, visuals curated by Kennisha Hoskins, local art by Amanda Joi, and a soundscape by Hospitality State.

Across the Table is focused on building community through the arts, creating space for connection, creativity, and shared experiences around the table.

Artist Roster Spotlight: Lady Adrena

Jackson-based singer-songwriter Lady Adrena brings a powerful blend of blues, soul, and rock to every performance.

She began singing at age five in her church choir and has since built a career rooted in Mississippi’s rich musical traditions. A true blues artist, she earned second place at the Vicksburg International Blues Challenge in 2018 and was named Female Vocalist of the Year by the Jackson Music Awards in 2020.

Lady Adrena has performed alongside artists including Denise LaSalle, Keb’ Mo’, Anthony Hamilton, and The Bar-Kays, and is currently touring with Morgan Freeman’s Symphonic Blues Experience as a lead singer, vocal coordinator, and percussionist. Her music reaches audiences internationally, with airplay in the U.S., France, and the U.K.

The Mississippi Arts Commission and CommonHouse Productions have received a Silver Telly Award for the Mississippi Poetry Out Loud 20th Anniversary video. This recognition celebrates two decades of empowering Mississippi students through poetry, performance, and creative expression.

Congratulations to everyone who helped bring this story to life—and to the students, educators, and communities who continue to make Poetry Out Loud such a meaningful program across the state. 👏

MAC Fellowship recipient and Mississippi Artist Roster member Tony Davenport is a professional artist and visual arts educator from Vicksburg, Mississippi. In FY2025, Tony received a Fellowship from the Mississippi Arts Commission, an award that supports Mississippi artists demonstrating excellence in their field.

As a member of the Mississippi Artist Roster, Tony is part of a statewide network of artists available for educational and community engagement opportunities across Mississippi.

Artist Roster applications are currently open through June 1 at 11:59 p.m.

Mississippi artists can receive up to $5,000 through the MAC Fellowship program to support their artistic development in any way they choose. MAC Fellowships are funded through support from the Mississippi Legislature.

MAC Presents: A Day for Artists, in partnership with The MAX in Meridian, is designed to empower, educate, and equip Mississippi artists of all kinds.

At this event, artists will create, learn, and explore together. There will be opportunities to build relationships, expand access to resources, and grow your professional skills. In the afternoon, The MAX comes alive with artist-led studio activations (2D, 3D, recording studio, and classroom). You will also be able to speak directly with statewide and national artist service organizations about opportunities they provide for artists—from residencies to grants, professional development, and employment opportunities. Top it off by hopping on the trolley to tour the Meridian Museum of Art and downtown mural tour. Whatever adventure you choose, this day is for YOU, Mississippi artists.
