S.O.W & Protect Neighborhood Watch SOW & Protect is a community-based initiative to impact gun violence in Jackson, Michigan. Establishing neighborhood watches in each ward of the city.

S.O.W is an acronym representing 3 victims to gun violence Mia Sims, Shameeka Oliver, and Shawna Walker. SOW & Protect is a community-based initiative aimed at reducing gun violence in Jackson, Michigan, by establishing neighborhood watches in each ward and changing communities one neighbor at a time. Pastor Shaunta M. Patton of UPCC Jackson, the initiative emerged after a tragic event in July 2025, when Pastor Patton’s niece and active church member was fatally shot outside the church during a service. Mia “Sweet” Sims, an entirely innocent victim, lost her life when her vehicle was mistakenly identified as the target in a dispute between two individuals. SOW is an acronym formed from the last names of three women—Mia “Sweet” Sims, Shameeka Oliver, and M**f Walker—who each lost their lives to gun violence. Through this initiative, their memories will be honored by fostering stronger communities, one neighbor at a time.

On August 21st, Detective Brooks was conducting follow-up to a shooting investigation. He received information about the location of a subject of interest. With the assistance of VCU the subject was located and a pistol was recovered from the property where he lives. The investigation is still ongoing.

🚨 JACKSON, MICHIGAN — MULTIPLE WEAPONS & M**H SEIZED 🚨

Jackson City Police Department Press Release~

Last night, Jackson City PD’s VCU conducted a field contact with a subject of interest. During the contact, officers reportedly observed a bulge near the subject’s waistline consistent with a concealed firearm.

A pat-down was conducted, and police say a loaded pistol was located.

The 36-year-old male was taken into custody. During a search of the bags he was carrying, officers reportedly discovered:

🔹 Two large knives
🔹 Nunchucks
🔹 A sawed-off shotgun
🔹 Narcotics equipment
🔹 More than 40 grams of suspected methamphetamine

The male was lodged in the Jackson County Jail and is reportedly facing multiple felony charges.

Last night our Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) made contact with a group of subjects. They were looking for a specific person with outstanding arrest warrants. During their investigation, they discovered one of the subjects was illegally concealing a pistol. The 18-year-old was taken into custody for CCW and transported to the jail. The pistol was determined to be stolen out of Minnesota.

Late last night, Officers Frazier and Soloman made contact with a group of juveniles who were out past curfew. One of the subjects fled on foot, holding his waistband. Officer Frazier caught the subject and took him into custody. A loaded pistol was found concealed in his pants, and it was determined to be stolen. The 16-year-old juvenile was lodged at the Jackson County Youth Center for resisting & obstructing officers, and weapon related offenses.

Just after midnight on June 7th, officers responded to a domestic. Both people that were involved were traveling in a vehicle and the female called 911. Dispatch was able to track the location of the phone and Officer Richardson was able to locate and stop the vehicle. It was determined that the male assaulted the female and threatened her with a gun. The male was taken into custody. ***Officer Schram and K9 Taz performed a search of the area when the suspect vehicle was first seen by Officer Richardson and the pictured gun was located. The gun looked exactly as the victim described***. He was taken to jail and charged with several felonies.
