EDITED POST updated for time. Terry Kitchen passed away on June 15, 2025, at a nursing home in Jacksonville, with no immediate family to claim him. Through the efforts of his friend John, who was able to provide his DD214, we were able to ensure he will receive the honor he deserves with burial at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.
His interment is scheduled for Friday, April 24, 2026, at 10 am at Camp Butler, where he will be laid to rest with full military honors.
If you are in the Springfield area and able to attend, your presence would mean a great deal. Though there was no family left to honor Mr. Kitchen, as a decorated United States Navy veteran, he is owed our respect and gratitude. Please consider sharing this message and joining me on Friday, at 10am.

April is National Donate Life Month—a time to raise awareness about organ, eye, and tissue donation and to encourage others to register as donors.

Today, we are especially grateful to have partnered with Gift of Hope and X’s & O’s Donuts & Bakery to offer our community the opportunity to confirm or register their donor status. We were surrounded by incredible friends, community leaders, and supporters, and the commitment to this important cause was truly evident.

We are thankful for the many strong partnerships within our community that make events like this possible.

Making the decision to register as a donor removes uncertainty for your loved ones during difficult times. By documenting your wishes, you provide clarity and guidance when it matters most.

Organ donation has the power to turn tragedy into healing. More than 108,000 people in the United States—including over 4,000 in Illinois—are currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant.

If you haven’t already registered, we encourage you to do so. You can contact the Coroner’s Office at 217-245-7423 or visit www.lifegoeson.com.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support this lifesaving mission.
