Message from the City of Jacksonville, NC
Since the winds died down from our most recent hurricane, your City crews have been out clearing streets and making sure the City operates for you.
The next day, City crews started picking up storm debris. And we will continue to do that most every day until at least the end of the month.
Unlike after Hurricane Florence the amount of damage from the recent hurricane did not meet the criteria for being reimbursed by FEMA. The City did not hire a contractor for the cleanup that was estimated at over a million dollars. The decision was made to have City crews work Monday-Saturday to pick up the debris.
That’s what is happening. So, be patient if your debris pile has not been picked up. It will be. You can help by following the rules on our webpage, on Facebook and on G10TV.
Frankly, I think this is the best option for us as we have seen the impact of COVID-19 on our revenues and your leadership does not want to chance paying millions of dollars for something we can do ourselves, albeit a bit slower. After all, we’re still waiting for FEMA reimbursement from Florence and Dorian.
These are very different conditions right now, and I hope all of you are being safe.
Sammy Phillips, Mayor, City of Jacksonville

I have recently retired and am thinking of moving to your city. What can you tell me about senior activities there?
Requesting assistance to gain clarification from the state as to the nature of Escape Rooms. I sent the body of this post as an email to State General Assembly Representatives, Cleveland, and Shepard, as well as Sheriff Miller. Brian Vinciguerra 7:02 PM (30 minutes ago) to Phil.Shepard, George.Cleveland, sheriff Good evening Gentlemen, I am Brian Vinciguerra, I own Cracked It Escape Games LLC here in Onslow County. I am writing to you this evening to gain clarification of Governor Cooper's Executive Order 141 " EASING RESTRICTIONS ON TRAVEL, BUSINESS OPERA TIO NS, AND MASS GATHERINGS: PHASE 2" I am a member of a trade industry group of North Carolina Escape Room business owners. We are seeking clarification as to whether we will be able to open under phase 2 restrictions since we are not specifically mentioned in the types of businesses that are to remain closed. Unfortunately, there is a great amount of apprehension and confusion among our group. A fellow business owner spoke recently with a representative from the Lieutenant Governor's Office. A Mr. Roberts indicated that Escape Rooms are classified as retail businesses and would have been permitted to open under phase 1 opening guidelines. A second owner further spoke with a different representative from the Lieutenant Governor's Office and was to something diametrically opposed to that and that we are classified as entertainment venues and should follow the restrictions as stated. The confusion lies in our business classification according to N.C. Taxation bulletin we are classified as a participatory event and not entertainment. I would like to proceed with reopening my business in a safe and legal manner and would request your assistance in clarifying this issue. Escape Room venues are by their very nature small groups who are familiar with each other (friends and family). In most cases, our business capacities within our locations are less than 25 people per including operational staff. Those 25 people are further divided into small groups of mostly not more than 10 people who are familiar with each other. Every single Escape Room in North Carolina is modifying our business practices to be in accordance with the Governor's Executive Order as delineated below. All Private Experiences Contactless Check-in. Staggered Game Start Times so that Parties Don't Overlap. Game Masters and Staff Will Remain a Minimum of 6 feet From Guests and wear a face covering. Pre-shift temperature checks and screening. Disinfecting Rooms Between Games. Deep Disinfecting of Rooms and Facilities at the End of Every Night. More information is available on our web page at Link: https://bit.ly/2T8hAnM Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated. If you would like to speak with me regarding this I am available at your convenience. Respectfully, Brian A. Vinciguerra (GySgt, USMC Ret.) Owner, Cracked It Escape Games
