Russell County Citizens welcome Deputy Sheriff Heath Tarter to the Russell County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Tarter has been employed as a Court Security Officer, Jamestown Police Officer and has over 13 years of experience in the Law Enforcement, he graduated the Department of Criminal Justice in 2018. Deputy Tarter also Graduated Campbellsville University with a Bachelor of Science degree with emphasis in the Criminal Justice field. He will be Protecting and Serving the Citizens of Russell County. Joshua Thomas Wilson 11 years old ran away from home during the night or early morning hours in the Hwy 910, Salem and Fairview area. Last seen at 2030 hours on 8-23-26 and noticed missing at 0830 on 8-24-26. Took a bag of clothes. Last seen wearing black ball shorts and took camo Heydudes from the front porch. That photo was taken from 8-14-26 to 8-16-26.
If anyone has seen this juvenile contact Russell County Dispatch @ 911.

The Russell County Sheriff’s Office along with the Russell Springs Police and Jamestown Police Departments executed a search warrant last night on Snow road off of Hales Highway.
Arrested at the scene was Christopher Fortenberry age 46 of Russell Springs. Fortenberry was charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Trafficking in Ma*****na,Trafficking in Controlled Substance and possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Also arrested was Melandai Lyn Smith age 37 of Columbia, she was charged with Trafficking in a controlled substance(Methamphetamine),Possession of Ma*****na, Illegal possession of a legend drug, possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Both subjects were lodged in the Russell County Detention Center. The case is being investigated by Deputy Sheriff Stone Bolin. The case will be presented to a Russell County Grand Jury. If anyone suspects Drug Activity in your neighborhood contact your perspective Law Enforcement Agencies close to where you live. 270-343-2191

The Russell County Sheriff’s Office,and Russell County Dispatch have received numerous calls from Citizens advising, a Sheriff’s Office number is calling and advising they have warrants for their arrest. 06/17/2026 They want the caller to bring money or mail money to keep from being arrested. I REMIND all Citizens the Russell County Sheriff’s Office will not call you and tell you anything like that, we would just show up. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION OUT TO ANYONE ON THE PHONE!! I MEAN ANYONE!! Scammers have nothing more to do other than sit somewhere and try to figure out how to scam and make money. There are numerous apps out and have been for years that can spoof any number, so be aware and dont tell anyone anything. Tell them you will meet them at your Local Sheriff’sOffice or Police Station. That will help a lot.

PLEASE DO NOT FALL FOR THIS!! IF YOU WIRE MONEY OR GO BUY APPLE OR GOOGLE CARDS AND SEND TO SOME FICTITIOUS ADDRESS, THERE IS NO WAY ANYONE CAN HELP YOU GET YOUR MONEY BACK. SO DO NOT GIVE MONEY OR PERSONAL INFORMATION OUT TO ANYONE THAT SAYS THEY ARE FROM A LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY. CONTACT YOUR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY AND ADVISE THEM.

Update as of 2:00pm Roadway 127 Officially Re-opened!!

The Russell County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an accident on Hwy 127 North Of York Rd toward the Wolf Creek Dam area this morning 4/11/2026. The Roadway is going to be temporarily blocked, to allow tow trucks to recover the vehicle. All motorist are ask to use extreme caution and expect delays until Roadway can be opened. Dispatch is notifying local Radio stations to advise. Jamestown Fire Department and Russell County EMS is also assisting. Thanks Sheriff Derek Polston

The Russell County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the Public’s assistance.
On the evening of April 6th or the Early Morning Hours of April 7th 2026, someone entered a Building near the Russell County Recycling Center. Stolen were Tools, ES 5000 Jump Pack, Hand Tools, Dewalt Batteries, Etc. Anyone who may have seen anyone walking, or carrying anything during the late night, or early morning hours are ask to call the Sheriff’s office M-F @ 270-343-2191 from 8-4 or 911 Dispatch. Deputy Nathan Bradshaw is the investigating Officer. All tips will remain anonymous.
