We've come to the end of the road folks. Our time together went too quick. Here's our final entry for Fleet Friday.

FLEET FRIDAY: BATTALION 204

Battalion 204 is our newest vehicle in the fleet, a 2021 Chevy Tahoe. When we first got it, this unit was designated Squad 241 and was the first rig out the door on EMS runs. On May 1st of this year, we changed its designation to Battalion 204 to fall in line with the rest of the Boone County fire departments. Battalion 204 is used by our Chiefs and Captains to respond to large scale incidents and establish a centralized command post, a common requirement in any fire department.

Have you ever watched the video from the comedian talking about the Fire SUV? No? First, go watch that and then come back here. That's what this truck does. It serves as an on-scene office space where the guy driving it can tell people to put water on the fire from the comfort of the multi-zone climate controlled cab. Looking at you, Chief.

All jokes aside, we appreciate you taking the time to learn about your Jamestown Fire Department and how we serve our community with courage, commitment, and compassion. As always, reach out to us to come see the trucks in person or fill out an application to be a volunteer. We're always looking for more help.

FLEET FRIDAY: GRASS 241

This week we're going to talk about my favorite truck, Grass 241. Our Grass Rig is a 2018 Ford/Kenny Vice that carries 250 gallons of water. That's only 5 bathtubs worth for those counting. Why such little water on such a small truck? Surely we're not going to fight a house fire with this truck right? Right!

Grass 241 is purpose built to be sent out into the farm fields and tightly spaced wood lines. 250 gallons may not sound like a lot of water but each gallon weighs over 8 pounds and that weight adds up quick. If you tried driving a semi with 4 tons of water into a muddy field, you'd probably get stuck pretty quick. Having the grass rig allows us to get in to those hard to reach places and most importantly, back out again. It's also great for public events like passing out candy on Halloween while helping keep an eye on all the gremlins and monsters.

FLEET FRIDAY: RESCUE 241

This week on Fleet Friday, let's talk about our big toolbox. Rescue 241 is a 1996 Freightliner/E-One and if you're an old timer like me, you might recognize this truck as Rescue 91 from . Now christened Rescue 241, this truck responds second out the door on all car wrecks and EMS incidents. It also helps us refill our air bottles on a fire scene.

Why do we call it our big red toolbox? There's something different about this truck that the Engine and Tanker can't claim. This truck carries no water or fire hose. Every compartment is jampacked with all kinds of tools, like the jaws of life, hand tools, drills, saws, and a light tower on the roof. We even keep a bunch of kitty litter and a giant Jenga set on here for when those neighborhood block parties get a little rowdy.

Remember, if you'd like to check our trucks out, or maybe fill out an application, you can find our contact info on our page.

FLEET FRIDAY: TANKER 241

This week we're going to talk about our mobile swimming pool, Tanker 241. Our tanker is a 2003 GMC/McGinley that holds 2,000 gallons of water. This truck is used for water supply in areas without a fire hydrant close by. Sometimes we have to bring all of our water with us to fight the fire.

Tanker 241 doesn't carry a lot of special tools or hose, but it one of our most important trucks. It's usually the first truck out the door when our neighbors call for help. We call that mutual aid. A little uno reverse, the first trucks we ask our neighbors to bring are usually their tankers too. We can't fight fire without water!
