CAL FIRE launches new app for real-time wildfire, emergency information

CAL FIRE has launched a new mobile platform designed to give Californians real-time information about wildfires and other emergencies directly from public safety agencies.

The new platform, called AwareCA, was announced Thursday by CAL FIRE Chief Joe Tyler, who said the agency’s website received 100 million views in 2025, with a majority of visitors seeking information about wildfires.

“Today, I am excited to announce the launch of , a mobile platform for incident information that mirrors our website,” Tyler said in a social media post.

The app brings many of the resources Californians may already use during wildfires and other emergencies into one place, including incident updates, evacuation infor

Users can save locations they want to monitor and customize notification distances. The app also displays evacuation warning and order zones, shelter and assistance locations, and different map views and hazard layers.

One of AwareCA’s more distinctive features allows users to track emergency response aircraft and their flight paths in 3D. Users can also access Caltrans traffic cameras and ALERTCalifornia wildfire cameras through the platform.

Screenshots of the app show a statewide map displaying active incidents across California. Individual incident pages can provide information including the size of a fire, containment, location, start date and agencies responding.

Users can also follow individual incidents and share information with family, friends and other contacts.

AwareCA describes itself as a source for “authoritative emergency information directly from the agencies that protect you.”

If you see this drone flying around, it has been identified as a Predator that is flown by CBP. SDGE also uses drones. One commenter says they build these at Genera Atomics here in San Diego.

The Jamul Fire Safe Council has worked tirelessly to help make our community safer from the threat of wildfire. Through community education, chipping events, defensible space programs, partnerships with firefighters and emergency agencies, grant opportunities, and wildfire preparedness outreach, we have been dedicated to protecting the people, homes, and landscapes of Jamul.

Today, we need your help.

Like many volunteer-driven organizations, the Jamul Fire Safe Council depends on community members who are willing to step forward and serve. Without additional volunteers and new Board Members, our organization may be forced to cease operations by the end of this year.

If the Fire Safe Council were to shut down, Jamul could lose a valuable resource that has helped advocate for wildfire safety, secure funding opportunities, organize community events, and provide critical education and preparedness programs that benefit us all.

Station 37 Deerhorn has a new addition, RA 37, a rescue ambulance built to bring advanced life support beyond the end of the pavement. Designed for rugged terrain, it reaches patients in remote areas where standard ambulances cannot easily operate.
From steep mountain grades and narrow roads to uneven off road conditions, RA 37 extends emergency medical care far beyond paved access. It is equipped with ALS equipment and is staffed by paramedics ready to deliver critical care in challenging environments.
RA 37 responds to both medical and rescue incidents and can support neighboring agencies when requested. With its specialized design and off road capability, it helps ensure high quality care reaches some of the most remote parts of San Diego County.
