📚 **FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL IS IN THE BOOKS!** 🎒

What a great first week!

Our Campus Law Enforcement deputies had a great time welcoming students back, greeting familiar faces, meeting new ones, and helping everyone get settled into another school year.

Having our deputies in the schools is about much more than safety. It’s about building relationships, being a positive presence, and making sure our students and staff know we’re here for them every day.

We hope everyone had an awesome first week, and we’re looking forward to a great school year ahead!

National Health Center Week❤️🩺

Today, Major Mike Chastain joined local officials at the Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center in Jasper to recognize National Health Center Week and celebrate the important role community health centers play in improving the lives of those they serve.

According to Good Samaritan, the center currently cares for approximately 170 active patients and provides a wide range of medical services to underserved and underprivileged individuals throughout our community.

The Pickens Sheriff’s Office is grateful for organizations like Good Samaritan that work every day to ensure quality healthcare is accessible to those who need it most. Strong partnerships between healthcare providers, community organizations, and public safety help build a healthier, safer Pickens County.

Prepared, Not Scared.

This morning, the Pickens Sheriff’s Office had the privilege of providing CRASE (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) training to the staff at Jasper United Methodist Church Preschool.

Chief Deputy Jeff Hall led today’s class, equipping participants with practical, life-saving information on how to respond during a critical incident. While we hope these skills are never needed, being prepared can make all the difference.

We appreciate Jasper United Methodist Church Preschool for taking the initiative to invest in the safety of their staff and children. Partnerships like these help build a stronger, more prepared community.

🌿 Wanted: One Walking Houseplant. 🌿

It appears someone thought a handful of leafy branches was the perfect disguise.

This individual was captured on a Ring camera after a vehicle stolen from Pickens County was abandoned and later recovered in Fairmount. While they made a creative attempt to hide from the camera, let's just say Mother Nature isn't an invisibility cloak.

The first day of school is tomorrow, Tuesday, August 4, and the Pickens Sheriff’s Office Campus Law Enforcement Division is excited to welcome students, teachers, and staff back for another great school year!

Led by Lieutenant England, our Campus Law Enforcement deputies are ready to serve and help provide a safe learning environment throughout Pickens County Schools.

Today, the Pickens Sheriff’s Office proudly recognized four well-deserved promotions that reflect the dedication, leadership, and professionalism of these outstanding members of our agency.

🚨 SCAM ALERT: Fraudsters Impersonating Pickens Sheriff’s Office Employees 🚨

The Pickens Sheriff’s Office has received reports of scammers calling residents and falsely claiming to be Sheriff’s Office employees. The callers tell victims they have an outstanding warrant and demand immediate payment of fines to avoid being arrested.

Don’t fall for it.

❌ The Pickens Sheriff’s Office will never call you demanding payment to avoid jail.
❌ We will never ask you to pay with gift cards, cryptocurrency, payment apps, or over the phone.
❌ Legitimate warrants are not resolved by making a payment over the phone.

If you receive a call like this:
• Hang up immediately.
• Do not provide personal or financial information.
• Do not send money.
• If you’re unsure whether the call is legitimate, contact the Pickens Sheriff’s Office directly using our non-emergency number.

Please share this post to help protect your family, friends, and neighbors from becoming victims of this scam.

**TORNADO CONFIRED FROM TUESDAY NIGHT'S STORM**

A National Weather Service survey team arrived in Pickens County earlier this afternoon and has confirmed that an EF-0 Tornado with winds of 80 to 85 MPH touched down in the East Price Creek Road area and moved south. The tree damage produced by the tornado was sporadic along the track. We are still working on putting all the data collected into the mapping system and additional information concerning the length and width will be provided soon. Straight-line thunderstorm winds produced tree and powerline damage on either side of the tornado track for several miles particularly in Talking Rock, and White Stone. Other scattered wind damage was also noted in other parts of the county as well. No injuries were reported during Wednesday night’s storms.

🚔 Large-Scale Exercise Successfully Completed

Today, the Pickens Sheriff’s Office joined our public safety partners for a successful large-scale active shooter exercise at Harmony Elementary School.

Training like this strengthens our ability to work together and prepares us to respond effectively during critical incidents.

We want to thank the Pickens County School System, Harmony Elementary School, Chattahoochee Technical College’s EMT Program for providing the volunteer role players, all participating public safety agencies, and our community partners Coca-Cola of Jasper and Community Bank of Pickens County for helping make today’s exercise a success.

Due to the size of the tree, the roadway will remain closed through tomorrow (7/31/26)

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE ALERT 🚧

Deputies are currently on the scene of a tree blocking the roadway on Twin Mountain Lake Road near the 300 block.

The roadway is currently closed while crews work to clear the tree. Please avoid the area and use an alternate route until the roadway has been reopened.
