Good morning everyone! We are up and at it in the courthouse today on this beautiful Wednesday! Just a reminder that Early Voting is open and I’d love to see you all at the polls!

I look forward to continue my government service and serve you as the next Recorder for Dubois County!! It would mean the world to me to serve you all and provide unmatched service in the Recorders Department!

Early voting is almost here, so I want to share a little about my experience.

I began my career at the Dubois County Courthouse in 2019 as a Deputy Recorder, where I gained strong knowledge of document preparation, recording procedures, and Indiana’s guidelines.

After nearly three years in the Recorder’s Office, I moved to the Auditor’s Office to broaden my skills.

For the past four years, I’ve worked with property transfers, deductions, public records, document management, and the county GIS system. This role has given me start‑to‑finish experience with the entire deed‑transfer process—from the first step to the final recording.

This hands‑on knowledge directly prepares me to lead the Recorder’s Office efficiently and confidently.

I would be honored to earn your vote.

Candidate for Dubois County Recorder

Hey Everyone! Sorry to miss you all in Ireland today! I was in my hometown of Celestine celebrating the engagement of my son and daughter in law!

Hello Everyone! Since campaign has begun, I want to take a few moments to introduce myself.

Hello! My name is Sheila Asbell and I am running for the office of Recorder in Dubois County. My maiden name was Sheila Elkins. I grew up in Celestine and my parents Jenny and Calvin Elkins. My father was a mechanic in the United States Air Force. After his
honorable discharge he came to Dubois County and worked until his retirement at the Jasper Cabinet Company where he had worked for over twenty years. You may remember him from his hobbies that included rebuilding Snapper Lawn Mowers, Genealogy and supervising the shooting matches at Celestine Community Club. He was very passionate about genealogy, so after he passed in 2011 all his research information was taken to the Dubois County Genealogy Society and is available to everyone to enjoy.

My mother Genevieve, AKA Jenny was a homemaker. She cooked at Celestine Community Club for nearly 30 years. She was very passionate about making quilts, which her mother and sister also made. If you have been to any church picnics over the last decade you have seen some of her quilts. She was also known for selling
her quilts along with her sister, Leona Schlachter, at many craft shows over the years. She took a lot of pride in her quilts which were beautiful (I am a little biased).

Looking forward to your feedback for the Dubois County Recorder's Office!

I’ve officially filed to run for Dubois County Recorder in the 2026 election.
With experience in both the Recorder’s Office and the Auditor’s Office, along with a decade in the private sector and my work with our son’s business, I’m ready to serve Dubois County with accuracy, transparency, and respect.
As a lifelong resident, community volunteer, and member of St. Raphael’s Church and Celestine Community Club, I care deeply about our county and the people who call it home. Joey and I live in Haysville, and I’m proud of our two adult children, Emily and Kale.
I look forward to meeting voters and sharing my vision for a well‑managed, accessible Recorder’s Office that serves everyone with integrity.
Thank you for your support as I take this step.
