We are incredibly grateful to all the local farmers who have generously donated fresh produce to our Food Pantry. Everything pictured was locally grown and donated by farmers in Cole County and surrounding counties.

Their kindness is an example of neighbors caring for one another. By sharing their abundance, these farmers are helping provide fresh, nutritious meals to families in our community. We also pray for rain and cooler weather for our local farmers. 🙏

Thank you for your donations!🍅🥒

💌 Join us September 15 for An Evening of Welcome: Prayer & Conversation.

On the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows and the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month, we’ll gather for an evening of prayer, culture, and conversation centered on the dignity of our immigrant and refugee neighbors.

We’ll be joined by Ryan Hudnall, Executive Director of Della Lamb Community Services, as he makes his way across Missouri through the Walk for Welcome, raising awareness and sharing the stories of immigrants and refugees along the way. 👟https://www.dellalamb.org/walk/

The evening will include prayer in solidarity with The Dorothea Project’s Our Lady of Sorrows Witness for Our Immigrant Neighbors in Washington, D.C.; a conversation with immigrants and community leaders; and a convivio featuring pupusas and tamales as we celebrate the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month. 🙏🫔

⭐ Happy Labor Day!

Today, we give thanks for the dignity of work and for all those whose labor helps strengthen our families and communities. Catholic Social Teaching reminds us that work is more than a way to make a living; it is an expression of our God-given dignity and a way we contribute to the common good.

As we reflect on the work we are called to do, we are grateful for the opportunity to serve others and share the fruits of our work with those around us.

📢 Our office and Food Pantry are closed today, Monday, September 7. We will resume regular hours tomorrow, Tuesday, September 8.

We hope you and your loved ones have a safe, restful, and peaceful holiday! 🙏

In our recent Encounter article, our Predatory Loan Relief Specialist, Tessa Mcintyre, reflected on the dignity of work in anticipation of Labor Day, while highlighting the financial challenges that can affect families in our community.

Through our Predatory Loan Relief Program, Catholic Charities helps people facing high-interest debt work toward financial stability through affordable financing, financial education, and personalized support.

This Labor Day, we are called to put our faith into action by supporting our neighbors through life’s challenges. As St. James reminds us, “Faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.” — James 2:17 🙏

Last Friday, our Director of Family Immigration Services, Marissa Flores Madden, welcomed the Public Prayer & Witness Planning Committee to Catholic Charities for a celebratory lunch and meeting, complete with homemade savory and sweet tamales, rice, and agua fresca.

The gathering was an opportunity to celebrate the time, care, and collaboration that made August’s Public Prayer & Witness possible—and the conviction at the heart of that work: every person is created with God-given dignity and deserves to be met with compassion and respect, regardless of where they were born, the language they speak, or their immigration status.

At Catholic Charities, we are grateful for partners who help us put that belief into action as we provide care, create hope, and walk alongside our neighbors. 💜

A big shoutout to UCP Heartland-Gibbs Center for Independence! 💜

Four clients and three staff members joined us to assemble Hope & Healing Bags for patients experiencing food insecurity at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital.

The hour they spent with us was filled with hugs, laughter, teamwork, and a shared sense of purpose as each bag came together.

We’re grateful for their time, their energy, and the care they poured into serving our neighbors. Thank you for helping us provide care and create hope!
