Aberdeen Proving Ground Residents,

Record breaking low temperatures will continue to run below freezing for the remainder of the week. These extreme temperatures can lead to frozen pipes causing damage to homes and personal belongings. Frozen pipes, however, can be prevented.

Below are some simple steps your family can take to prevent this inconvenience from happening to you:

* Disconnect garden hoses from outdoor spigots and drain the hose.

* Keep garage doors closed.

* Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the sink plumbing. Be sure to move any harmful cleaners and household chemicals out of the reach of children.

* When the weather is very cold outside, let water drip from the faucets that are in close proximity to exterior walls. Running water through the pipe — even at a trickle — helps prevent pipes from freezing because the temperature of the water running through it is above freezing. This should be done for both hot and cold water faucets.

* Keep the thermostat set to the same temperature both during the day and at night.

* If you will be traveling during cold weather, leave the heat on in your home and set to a temperature no lower than 55ºF.

* Call your Community Office and ask to be added to the home watch list if you plan to leave for an extended period of time.

There is also the possibility for more snow and strong winds this evening. We appreciate your patience with Maintenance teams as we balance resident Emergency work orders with snow removal.

For questions or concerns please contact your Corvias Community Office.
