Last Wednesday, July 22, 2026, the Carbon County Commissioners and the Open Space Advisory Board hosted the Open Space Grant Program Kickoff Event for the Fall Grant Round Opening! Many kudos especially our speakers: Senator David Argall; State Representative Doyle Heffley; Chairman of the Board of Commissioner’s Mike Sofranko; Open Space Advisory Board Chairman, Fred. Kemmerer, Jr.; and Open Space Advisory Board Advisor, Dennis DeMara. We would also like to give a big thank you to the media for covering the event, including WNEP, BRC13, and the Times News. Lastly, we want to thank our Open Space Advisory Board members and advisors who have volunteered to help make the Open Space Program happen and provided support with the event.

Jumping back in to the Meet the Open Space Advisory Board series, we are highlighting member Dave Krause this month.

Dave holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Wildlife Biology from Michigan State University. Dave retired from Asplundh Tree Expert, LLC in 2021 with 43 years’ experience in vegetation management and arboriculture. He developed programs for utility, pipeline and roadside right-of-way managers across the US and provided employee training on best practices, technology integration and environmental safety. Dave also oversaw Asplundh’s 70-year research project near Penn State University, which studies the positive effects of integrated vegetation management on biodiversity and wildlife habitat sustainability.

Dave served on numerous industry organization boards throughout the eastern US. He also served 10 years on the Lehighton School Board and has been a trustee on the Lehigh Carbon Community College Board since 2005. He brings valuable expertise in board governance and effective collaboration. Being retired provides him time for community service.

Dave grew up and spent most of his life in small agricultural communities and was honored to become part of the new Open Space Advisory Board to help preserve the valuable natural resources here in our county.

Thank you Dave for your incredible membership on the board!
