☀️🚲 With summer right around the corner, our department is reminding families that safety should always come first when children are riding bicycles, e-bikes, and other micromobility devices.

A properly fitted helmet is one of the most important pieces of safety equipment a child can wear. Helmets significantly reduce the risk of serious head injuries and should be worn every time a rider gets on a bike or e-bike—no exceptions.

We also encourage parents to talk with their children about obeying traffic laws. Stop signs, traffic signals, right-of-way rules, and safe riding practices apply to cyclists and e-bike riders just as they do to motorists. Staying alert, riding predictably, and respecting the rules of the road help keep everyone safe.

As a reminder, Pennsylvania has specific laws regarding e-bikes, e-scooters, and other micromobility devices. According to PennDOT’s PA Micromobility Fact Sheet, e-bikes are permitted on roadways and bike lanes under certain conditions, while electric scooters are currently not legal to operate on public roadways.

This summer, help us prevent injuries before they happen. Take a few minutes to review safe riding habits with your family and make sure every ride starts with a helmet.

🚒 Safety Starts at Home. Helmets Save Lives. Ride Responsibly.

Yesterday, Members of the West Hills Regional Fire Department recently trained on vehicle extrication skills utilizing demo extrication equipment from TNT Rescue Systems, Inc., brought to us by All American Fire Equipment.

Training like this allows our members to continue sharpening critical lifesaving skills and demonstrates our department’s ongoing commitment to serving and protecting our community. We take pride in continually improving our knowledge, teamwork, and capabilities so we can provide the highest level of service when our community needs us most.

We would also like to extend a huge thank you to Petrick Automotive Repair 2.0 for donating both the space and a vehicle that allowed our members the opportunity to train hands-on in a realistic environment.

Does this look like something you would want to be a part of? Join our department and become part of a motivated and dedicated group of members committed to serving our community. Message us on Facebook or Instagram, or visit our website for more information on how to join! 🚒

On Tuesday and Thursday morning, the West Hills Regional Fire Department proudly participated in a special community event at Westmont Hilltop Elementary. 🚒

As part of the PTO’s “Let’s Get Fired Up for School” fundraiser, Truck 28 had the honor of picking up students from their homes and giving them a memorable ride to school. Twenty lucky students were selected to take part in this exciting experience—all while helping raise funds for their school and local fire departments.

We’re grateful to be part of such a great community and to help create lasting memories for these students!

Join us in congratulating one of our own, Firefighter Nathaniel Roddy, on his well-earned promotion to Lieutenant with the North Myrtle Beach Fire Department. Roddy’s dedication, leadership, and commitment to serving the community have set him apart, and we are incredibly proud to see him take this next step in his career.

We are especially proud to see the hard work and commitment of our members lead to positive outcomes, no matter where their careers take them.

He will begin his new role as Lieutenant on Monday, March 30th, assigned to Engine 1 on A-Shift. We have no doubt he will continue to lead with integrity, professionalism, and pride in the fire service.

Congratulations, Lieutenant Roddy—well deserved and well earned!

More West Hills Firefighters Go Career 🚒

Today, we proudly recognize Battalion Chief Brennan Mitchell and Firefighter/EMT Ryan Kovach as they take the next step in their careers as professional firefighters. We thank both of these members for their dedication, commitment, and the lasting impact they’ve made on our department and community. While they will be missed, we are excited to see them succeed in this next chapter.

Battalion Chief Brennan Mitchell has been a dedicated member of the West Hills Regional Fire Department since 2019 and became a full-time firefighter in January 2023. Through hard work and leadership, he rose through the ranks of Lieutenant, Captain, and ultimately Battalion Chief. He will now serve with the City of Johnstown Fire Department, assigned to D Platoon on Truck 2.

Firefighter/EMT Ryan Kovach joined West Hills in January 2024 and quickly developed a passion for the fire service, excelling in training. He earned his EMT certification from Conemaugh School of EMS, began working with Hilltop EMS in February 2025, and served as a live-in member. His dedication earned him EMS of the Year for 2025. He now continues his career with Salem Fire & EMS Department in Virginia while attending the fire academy.

We wish Battalion Chief Mitchell and Firefighter Kovach the very best in their new careers! Both Battalion Chief Mitchell and Firefighter Kovach remain involved with the West Hills Regional Fire Department.
