That’s a wrap on Summer Bridge 2026 Session #1! The week-long festivities concluded with a dynamic focus on our Design Academy, specifically highlighting the Digital Design and Film & Media Production program of studies.

Here’s a look at how we finished strong:
Creativity in Action: Students channeled their creativity into crafting personalized pencil pouches featuring original artwork by our Digital Design peers, then stepped behind the lens to direct and shoot each other at the photo booth!

The Ultimate Scavenger Hunt: Students put their campus knowledge to the test in a high-energy race! Working in teams, they cracked riddles and navigated the campus to locate critical buildings and resources they’ll need this year.

Alumni Inspiration: Students learned about Maui High alumni Rachel Kondo (Producer, Shōgun) and Destin Daniel Cretton (Director, Spider-Man: Brand New Day). Both are Award of Excellence inductees who serve as incredible examples of where dedication can lead!

Summer Bridge beautifully concluded with a celebration of student engagement. Students with perfect attendance were officially honored as Summer Bridge Completers, taking home an exclusive t-shirt and a special commemorative Patsy Mink quarter!

We hope this enriching week has fueled our students’ confidence and excitement for the upcoming school year!
Mahalo to Ms. Fukuroku, Ms. Boone, our dedicated teachers, workforce interns, and special guests for creating such a memorable experience.

Our Sabers explored their creative and cultural sides on Day 4 of Summer Bridge with a visit to the Hui Noʻeau Visual Arts Center! The trip focused on the Freshman Academy’s name: the ʻĀhinahina (Haleakalā Silversword). Students learned how this rare, unique plant—endemic to Haleakalā, with its striking silver, sword-like leaves—serves as a fitting symbol for both our Saber mascot and our island home. They also explored nā akua (the gods) and their deep connection to and influence on our local environment.

Bringing these lessons to life, our students created beautiful, custom ʻāhinahina block prints on watercolor canvases and learned the traditional art of crafting their own ti leaf lei. A huge mahalo to the Hui Noʻeau Visual Arts Center for providing such an enriching, educational, and cultural experience for our incoming freshman class!

Day 3 of Summer Bridge took our newest Sabers into the kitchen for a hands-on Culinary Pathway experience spotlighting the Sustainability Academy! Students worked in teams to fulfill specific roles in preparing today’s menu, consisting of Disneyland-style grilled cheese, tomato soup, and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.

Big mahalo to our culinary teacher, Mr. Scott Tresidder, and all the students, interns, and alumni who helped make this day so memorable. Your guidance brought teamwork and creativity to life in the kitchen!

Tomorrow students will get to go on a field trip to Hui Noʻeau Visual Arts Center for another exciting day of learning and exploration!

Day 2 of Summer Bridge was packed with hands-on learning! Students toured the campus, met Athletic Director Ms. Leolani Corpuz, and dove into our Service Academy’s Health Services pathway. Check our school website’s Athletics Tab for info!

Big thanks to Mālama I Ke Ola (our on-campus school-based health clinic) for introducing students to anatomy using interactive puzzles and our new digital Anatomage tables! Intake forms went home today for their convenient on-campus health services (including DOE sports physicals).

We also honored Maui High alumna Patsy Mink (Class of ‘44), the first Asian American woman in Congress and co-author of Title IX! Her legacy lives on at our Patsy Mink Softball Field. Sabers truly shape history! 💙

Maui High School Summer Bridge kicked off today welcoming the incoming freshman class. Our administration, faculty, and student interns were delighted to begin the morning with interactive icebreakers led by Student Government to encourage peer connections, followed by campus tours to familiarize the students.

A key focus of the day was introducing the Saber Legacy, highlighting the achievements of notable alumni, Lloyd Inouye, to inspire school pride and a commitment to excellence as these students begin their high school careers.

In the spotlight of the Design Academy, students partnered with the Department of Transportation for a hands-on Bridge Builder Activity, competing to design the most efficient balsa wood bridge to kick off an exciting week of learning and teamwork!

Maui High School’s Summer Interns officially kicked off with a successful practice run for our Summer Bridge program! It was an incredible day of collaboration and learning.

A huge shoutout to our talented culinary interns who took the lead, hosting a hands-on chocolate chip cookie baking demonstration that showcased serious skill and creativity in the kitchen.

Consider this a little sneak peek before the real deal! Summer Bridge is designed to give our incoming 9th graders a head start on their high school journey here at Maui High School. It’s the perfect opportunity for them to:
💙 Explore the campus
💙 Build community & make new friends
💙 Meet our awesome staff before the school year kicks off

We are so excited to welcome our new Sabers next week!

This year’s theme was “navigating change,” encouraging our students to look inward, discover their unique strengths and passions, and contribute meaningfully to their community.
