Check out this Virtual CMTE opportunity hosted by the Wisconsin Chapter for Music Therapy!

From WCMT: Effective Advocacy for music therapy requires more than knowing how to explain the profession. It requires understanding the people we seek to influence, identifying what matters to them, and communicating the value of music therapy in ways that are relevant and meaningful. This isn’t about telling stakeholders whatever they want to hear. It's about identifying authentic points of alignment between what music therapy actually offers and what the stakeholder actually values. Ethical advocacy is grounded in transparency, curiosity, relationship building, and a willingness to understand perspectives beyond our own.

Course Description: In this CMTE, participants will explore practical strategies for effective advocacy and audience-centered communication. Participants will learn to identify stakeholder priorities, recognize assumptions and gaps in understanding, translate professional language, adapt talking points, and make appropriate advocacy asks. Through interactive activities and role-play, participants will practice navigating questions, concerns, and differing perspectives while maintaining authenticity and professionalism. Participants will leave with a practical framework for preparing and engaging in advocacy conversations on behalf of music therapy.
