Today marks the two-year anniversary of the 2024 tornadoes that tore through Texas and Pavilion Townships and Portage.

The recovery is not over. From the broken landscapes along South 12th Street and Centre Avenue to the trees that still topple during heavy winds, the reminders of that day are everywhere. But when I see these scars, I don’t just see devastation—I see the incredible resolve of our community and the work that still needs to be done.

Those storms prompted my run for office because I believe our residents deserve a more responsive government. Every day, I am focused on building a local government that matches the resolve of the neighbors who showed up for one another two years ago.

To everyone still rebuilding: I’m sending you strength and support today. May the resilience that carried you through the storm continue to carry you forward, one step at a time.

🚒 This Weekend at the Texas Township Fire Station: Advocacy & Community!

Join us at the Texas Township Fire Station for two distinct opportunities to connect with your neighbors and your representatives.

🗓️ FRIDAY, MAY 1: Legislative Update

Time: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

State Representative Matt Longjohn will be on hand for a Legislative Update. This is a great chance to hear directly about what is happening at the state level and how it impacts our local community.

I will be there, as will our Fire Chief Ken Chapman, and we look forward to connecting with you. If you have questions about state policy or township-related legislation, or would just like more information or to meet Matt, we hope to see you there!

🗓️ SUNDAY, MAY 3: Community BBQ

Time: 12:00 PM

Come back on Sunday and bring the family for our community BBQ! Meet your local firefighters, tour the station, and see the equipment that serves our township every day. It’s a casual, fun way to get to know the team and enjoy some great food.

📍 Location for both events: Texas Charter Township Fire Station, 7110 West Q Avenue, Kalamazoo.

While you’re there, we will also be available to answer any questions regarding the Fire Millage that will be on the August ballot. For more details on the proposed millage, read the full FAQs below. 🔗
