So glad to have been part of such a great event last night! The Portage Rotary Club donated $500 to our fire department to provide smoke detectors for those who otherwise couldn't afford them. Thank you, Portage Rotary! I'm pictured below with Chief Ken Chapman, Firefighter/Engine Operator Alec Ryder, Portage Rotary Club President Ginny Dell, Captain Ian MacLeod, and Firefighter Caleb Wedel. We're exploring the possibility of starting a Rotary Club in the township. The next opportunity to learn more is Wednesday, October 21, at 5:30 p.m. at the Fire Department. Hope to see you there!

🚨❤️ Community Partnerships Save Lives ❤️🚨

We were honored to welcome the Rotary Club of Portage to the Texas Township Fire Station this evening. As the club explores opportunities to establish a satellite club in Texas Township, they have already made a tremendous impact on our community.

As part of a service project, Rotary members not only collected smoke detectors for local residents, but also generously donated $500 to support our smoke detector program.

Many residents may not be aware that the Michigan Prevention Smoke Detector Program was eliminated due to state budget cuts. While that funding has disappeared, the need for working smoke detectors in our homes has not.

Your Texas Township Firefighters are committed to filling that gap and developing a new community smoke detector program to help keep our residents safe. The Rotary Club's generosity provides the perfect spark to help launch this important initiative.

We are incredibly grateful for their support, partnership, and commitment to making our community safer.

This donation is more than just funding, it's the seed that will help grow a program that saves lives.
