"Victory for One City! Steps toward economic justice and fair play were taken on the anniversary of Dr. King's assassination as grassroots organizers from the inner city, the most neglected and abandoned community of our city, banded together with little money but much heart and zeal to bring millions of economic development dollars to the urban core over the next 10 years. What major power players in the city would not do, we the grassroots had to do for ourselves! We owe a debt of gratitude to all fair minded Kansas Citians who went to the polls with the moral courage to support "One City"! We commend our grassroots brothers and sisters who were determined to empower themselves!" - Rev. Dr. Vernon Howard, Jr., SCLC-GKC President and Chair of One City Planning Committee
