ERIC - EJ1060650 - What Is the Proof? A Methodological Review of Studies That Have Utilized Social Stories, Education and Training in Autism and Developmental Disabilities, 2015-Jun
Please remember to evaluate evidence before implementing or promoting interventions. Treatment time is critical and should be used to provide effective treatment strategies. Social Stories are not an effective way to teach Social Skills. At Social Connections we utilize Teaching Interactions. Teaching Interactions promote generalization and perspective taking for novel situations. Discrimination Training is a critical component for transfering skills that are learned in Social Skills Groups to the natural environment and across contexts. Social Connections networks with leaders in the field of Social Skills Training. Understanding nonverbal, and verbal social cues are critical for behavior change to generalize to other environments. This is why social skills should be intensively taught through teaching interactions, and discrimination training procedures.
Social stories are a commonly empirically evaluated and implemented procedure to increase pro-social behaviors and decrease aberrant behaviors for individuals diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. Despite their widespread use there have been questions raised to the soundness of the research me...

SCLC will continue to monitor the COVID-19 precautiousions. This appears to change from day to day. In the event that things escalate potential closures may occur. In the meantime sanitary measures are put in place and the following travel policy has been instated:
Parents/Guardians,
Any client who requested removal from therapy for traveling purposes will not be allowed to resume therapy for 14 days post returning to Katy Texas unless documentation can be provided showing that travel was cancelled.
This includes:
-Airline cancellations
-Hotel cancellations
If you can provide documentation of a negative COVID-19 test, we can evaluate returning earlier than the 14-day recommendation by the CDC.
If you are unable to provide this documentation, we understand your frustrations, but we cannot risk the safety and protection of our most vulnerable clients and staff.
Thank you for understanding!

PSA: COVID-19 in Texas – March 7, 2020
The Texas Department of State Health Services is reporting three additional travel-related cases of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, bringing the state total to eight. These cases are among the same group that traveled overseas together and were being monitored by public health because of a possible exposure to COVID-19.
DSHS will update the state case count each day by 10 a.m. Central Time.

Some important tips to help keep coronavirus at bay: regularly washing hands, staying home if you feel sick and covering your mouth and nose when you sneeze. The virus is spread in large droplets by coughing and sneezing. This means that the air will not infect you! BUT all the surfaces where these droplets land are infectious for about a week on average - everything that is associated with infected people will be contaminated and potentially infectious. The virus is on surfaces and you will not be infected unless your unprotected face is directly coughed or sneezed upon.
This virus only has cell receptors for lung cells (it only infects your lungs) The only way for the virus to infect you is through your nose or mouth via your hands or an infected cough or sneeze onto or into your nose or mouth.
While this is a serious public health threat, county residents should go about their daily lives but take certain precautions:
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Stay home when you are sick.
• Cover your coughs and sneezes. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands. Remember to wash your hands after coughing or sneezing.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe
If you feel you are experiencing coronavirus symptoms (fever 100.4) cough and shortness of breath) please contact your local health department.
