Thank you for visiting this archived page!

This is a four year history of my time coordinating Whittam Community Garden. It was an amazing journey that I will always treasure. For now, I am leaving this page intact so that Marion-Polk Foodshare and the next coordinator will have full access to its history. It has been an amazing project, and I know it will continue to grow and benefit the community!

If you are interested in gardening, please contact Jose Regalado Barajas at 503-851-7824 or Marion-Polk Foodshare at 503-581-3855 x418.

Happy Harvest!

Today I had the opportunity to drop in on my last Community Garden Coordinator Annual training, provided by Marion Polk Foodshare. I was asked to speak about hosting volunteer groups.

Although I have resigned as coordinator (after many tears), I did want to share about how important I feel showing appreciation to volunteers is, and inexpensive ways to do that.

I also had an ulterior motive, and it was to thank the Volunteer Coordinator, Leana for all the support I received from her as a coordinator. I had a really fun year with her, especially doing the video for CCTV!
She is also moving on to a new season, but the beautiful thing about community gardening is the friendships you develop along the way.

I was able to meet the new Volunteer Coordinator, Amy. Each coordinator that I have worked with has brought something new and special to the position, and I can tell she’s going to be awesome!

I really appreciate Marion-Polk Foodshare for all they do for the community, and for four awesome years. The journey has been amazing!
(I was only there about an hour so I was not able to get photos of other speakers, but Mary Jo and Margaret Moore did an awesome job!)

A few end of the season pictures. I disconnected all the hoses and stored for winter. Cleaned out some beds and winterized them, it took a good part of the day but it is done.
There is so much to do still, but this time of year my business needs to come first. (that is what allowed me to volunteer so much.)

It feels good to say “my work here is done”!

Last trip to Simonka. Only 12 pounds but every bit helps.

Garden Spotlight: (Better to ask forgiveness than permission) … I’m calling out two amazing ladies from Dayspring Fellowship and Dayspring community garden. Kristie Kalb and Monica Melhorn.
They prefer to remain humble, but I want to recognize them because they encompass what we are trying to do here.
These are just a few photos of the many donations that have gone from this garden to Simonka women’s and kids shelter. As well as other areas that they donated to.

We are so grateful to have such awesome gardeners, and I have learned so much from them! And I can’t wait to find out how much our total for the year is!

This was awesome. Even after myself and two friends taking some, we had 40 pounds of rhubarb to donate to Simonka Women’s & Kids Shelter!

Also got some pics before everything dies and looks drab. Our flowers still look pretty and we still have tomatoes to harvest.
