FIRE TRAINING SATURDAY MORNING

Duplin County will be conducting a fire training and water haul practice at East Duplin High School in Beulaville on Saturday, April 24, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Representatives from all fire departments in Duplin County and some departments in surrounding counties will be attending the event.

There may be traffic delays in the area during the training event. Duplin County Water customers in the area may experience brown-tinted water due to the increased water flow in the system. The Water Department is proactively flushing lines before the event to prevent brown water; however, customers may still experience some sediment in their water. The water is safe and there is no need to boil water before use.

The Storm Prediction Center has Duplin County in the Moderate Severe Outlook region (Level 4 out of 5 threat) and the National Weather Service is still anticipating the possibility of a severe weather event for our area later this afternoon and into the evening. Severe hazards may include damaging wind gusts, large hail, and tornados.

We can expect to begin seeing isolated thunderstorms between noon and 2:00pm, with the main portion of the storm arriving between 4:00pm and 6:00pm.

Be sure to have a severe weather plan in place, at least two ways to receive emergency weather alerts, and a shelter plan if needed.

Duplin County will be activating the Emergency Operations Center at noon and will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates when needed. Be Safe!
