In an effort to keep the most vulnerable groups away from the general population in the midst of Coronavirus — and to ensure they get the items they need — a growing number of grocers across the U.S. have introduced special senior-only shopping times.

These are some that we are aware of. Do you know of more?

Dollar General

Who: Senior citizens

Albertsons
When: 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays
(some store times vary)
Who: Senior citizens, pregnant women, customers with compromised immune systems

When: One hour before store opening* on Tuesdays beginning March 24 (through April 28)
Who: Ages 60+
* 24-hour locations are now open only from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Target
When: The first hour of shopping every Wednesday (check local store for hours)
Who: Ages 65+, customers with disabilities, pregnant shoppers, and shoppers with compromised immune systems

Whole Foods
When: 1 hour before opening to the public (most open at 8:00 a.m.)
Who: Ages 60+

Big Lots
When: First hour after opening (The location at 5781 SW Green Oaks Blvd is open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily, except on Sundays when they open at 10:00 a.m.)
Who: Senior citizens and “those most vulnerable to this virus”

These reserved times mostly take place during the first hour of business. Shoppers should pay attention to each store’s requirements and bring a valid form of identification.
