Who's ready to FISH? Kewaunee County is home to 5 inland lakes, Shea's Lake, Krohn's Lake, East Alaska Lake, West Alaska Lake and Heidmann Lake.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is encouraging anglers to fish close to home, so this is a great way to be a tourist in your hometown.

NOTE: ALL public restrooms and port-a-potties are temporarily closed/locked because of COVID-19.

Itching to get back on the water?

Good news – the 2020 game fish season opens on Saturday, May 2!

The weather is going to be perfect for this year’s opener, but there are a few things we need you to know.
🎣 All normal rules and regulations apply including the need for a valid 2020-2021 fishing license and bag limits
🎣 Fish local in your community and have a backup plan, just in case
🎣 Boat launches are open at all open DNR properties – check locally for the availability for your favorite close-to-home launch
🎣 Maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet between yourself and others you don’t live with
🎣 Add hand sanitizer to your tacklebox
🎣 Consider wearing a mask – the CDC recommends them in public settings to protect yourself and others

Things might look a little different for the fishing opener in 2020. Create a new tradition. Find a new favorite fishing spot close to home. Facetime your friends to share in the experience.

Brush up on the regulations, read this year’s fishing report and more at https://dnr.wi.gov/topic/Fishing/

ICYMI: Kewaunee County Dairy Promotion Committee with Salentine Homestead Dairy have made the tough decision to cancel 2020 Breakfast on the Farm, Kewaunee County due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Looking ahead, Augustian Farms LLC will host in 2021 and Salentine Homestead Dairy will host in 2022. And, you can still celebrate June Dairy Month on your own with a buffet of ice cream sundaes, milk, cheese, yogurt and everything else that's yummy and delicious, courtesy of our hardworking farmers.

With great disappointment, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Dairy Promotion Committee, together with Salentine Homestead Dairy, announces the cancelation of 2020 Breakfast on the Farm, Kewaunee County. We thank the Salentine family for their willingness to host the event. We are grateful for the sponsors, volunteers, and visitors who supported the past breakfast events. We are excited to collaborate with all of you for 2021 Breakfast on the Farm at Augustian Farms LLC, and we are delighted to have Salentine Homestead Dairy host the breakfast in 2022.

Our committee is working together to celebrate June Dairy Month this year creatively. Be sure to watch our social media posts for more information on that.

Please say a prayer for all those affected by the COVID-19 and know that Kewaunee County farmers are still working hard every single day to bring you the safest and most healthy dairy products to your table. Support your local dairy farmers by purchasing more milk, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, cream cheese, and ice cream!

We know that you all love the lakeshore, so please hang in there with us as we all weather this storm together and take a moment to read this message from the Algoma Area Chamber. We hope to see you soon!

Dear Algoma Businesses, Residents, and Visitors...

These are truly historic times that we are currently going through that our future generations will learn about in history class. This is the time we need to come together as a community for the greater good of Algoma and Kewaunee County.

To fellow business owners please keep your head up, stay focused and most importantly hopeful. Utilize this time to reflect on what you can change in your business to be stronger when we get to the other side of this. Use this time for training, explore ideas of new services or products, and lastly take some time for yourself.

Residents, this is the moment to renew your commitment to our local businesses. The same businesses that donate to your children's sports teams, school events, and churches, and make some of our community events possible like Shanty Days and our summer concerts. Use this opportunity to order a little extra with that take out order, order extra cheese on your pizza, or cheese curds to help our dairy farmers.

If you are still traveling for work please get gas here in town, grab groceries here, and shop local. Many local business owners try to do as much business in town with our fellow business owners as possible, but if you don't do business with us, we cannot pass that profit onto the next business, our employees, our schools, events, or activities.

Visitors, remember us when this is all over. We want to welcome you, but right now for the safety and security of our communities please just work on planning a vacation here and book hotel rooms, fishing charters, and plan day trips for sometime this summer. Don't be in too much of a hurry to get here, we will wait for you, but know that we are anxious to see you but only when it is safe!

Download your 2020 Visitors Guide from our website so you can plan that perfect lakeshore vacation: https://visitalgomawi.com/get-your-2020-friendly-algoma-guidebook/

Stay healthy, stay safe, & shop local!

As we all look forward to the excitement that summer brings, the Kewaunee County Fair has shared a message on plans moving forward due to COVID-19. Here's to hoping that we can see you all in July.

As always, our top priority is ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of our fairgoers, volunteers, employees, exhibitors, vendor, partners, and artists. It is our responsibility to plan for and look ahead to a safe operating environment and event for all.

The 103rd Kewaunee County Fair is approximately 3 months away and at this time we are moving onward as planned. We look forward to celebrating the fair with everyone from July 9th – 12th.

As preparation for our fair has been in progress for many months now, we find ourselves, like many of you, facing unfamiliar challenges of COVID-19. During this time, we continue to monitor this evolving situation daily. Additionally, we will continue working with Kewaunee County to take several precautionary measures as we consider all that is involved making the best decision based on the information available as it unfolds.

Your ongoing support and understanding to and for the Kewaunee County Fair through these dynamic times are truly appreciated.

Our Story

Kewaunee County is a great destination for those who love the outdoors! This northeast Wisconsin community, situated along nearly 28 miles of beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline is ideal for fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking and swimming at the beach.

We also have a great view of the Bay of Green Bay, as well as public access to many lakes, rivers and parks that are perfect for picnics too! And, we highly recommend taking advantage of hiking, biking or horseback riding on the Ahnapee State Trail or backpacking on the Ice Age Trail during spring, summer and fall!

Then, when the snow starts to fly in winter and the open waters freeze over, the outdoor recreational fun changes over to snowmobiling, ice fishing and skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing or snowshoeing at Winter Park.

Got a need for speed? Catch the dirt-track races at Luxemburg Speedway, when the temperatures are warm or ride your ATV or UTV at Riverview ATV Park.

Although, if you like things at a bit slower pace, hop in a golf cart and tee off at our beautiful courses.

Meanwhile, for the treasure hunters we have antique shops galore and tons of unique finds at our downtown art galleries, boutiques and specialty stores.

We also have plenty of weekend events to offer our visitors. There's something for everyone year-round including classic car shows, fishing tournaments, 5k run/walks, parades, heritage and wine festivals and more.

Now, if you're looking to be a connoisseur of sorts, stroll through the vineyards of our local wineries or pull up a stool at our area breweries to learn about the process of making beer. And, don't forget to carve out some time for a stop at our many cheese and meat markets, too! Perhaps, you’re ready to dine? Grab a table at our cafés and casual restaurants and unwind.

Lodging is no problem either, we have plenty of places to rest. And, after you're all caught up on sleep and feeling the best, we’re sure that you’ll be able to find many other things to do.

Kewaunee County has something for everyone, visit us today and vacation like a local!
