The Consent Order that has resulted from the State of Michigan Enforcement action against the County owned Smiths Creek Landfill, for pollution into the community, has been released by EGLE and is available at the following link.

The consent order charges the county $163,700 in fines and enforcement costs. This is in addition to the $2.3 million dollars the county has already spent containing odors at the landfill. These costs will be paid by all county residents.
Unfortunately, the consent order does not prohibit the septage bioreactor operation at the landfill.
I believe it is wrong to continue the septage bioreactor and I intend to oppose this as the St Clair County Commissioner for District 5 which includes Kimball Township, St Clair Township and Smiths Creek. These are all communities that were directly affected by the gas released from the Landfill.
If you are able to, please come to the County Board of Commissioners meeting on April 17th at 6:00 pm at 200 Grand River Avenue, Port Huron.
Let the commissioners know how you feel about the expenditures and fines incurred by the county. Share your thoughts on if the landfill should continue the septage bioreactor operation.
If you are unable to attend the meeting and speak, and want to share your thoughts with the board, email all commissioners at once at [email protected]
Robert Fielitz, St Clair County Commissioner, 5th District
