🚧 City of Lanark – Water Main Replacement Project Update 🚧

The City of Lanark would like to inform residents that yard restoration work for areas impacted by the 2025 Water Main Replacement Project will begin within the next week. The City Council voted unanimously on 5-19-2026 to approve O’Brien Civil Works of Mt. Morris, Illinois, low bid to complete the restoration work over the next four weeks.

Crews will be working to restore disturbed lawn areas as quickly and efficiently as possible. We kindly ask residents to allow crews the space and access needed to complete their work safely and effectively.

🌱 Helping Your New Grass Grow
Once restoration work is complete, residents are encouraged to help establish the new grass by watering regularly.
Recommended watering tips:
• Water early in the morning (best time) or in the evening
• Avoid watering during the hottest part of the day
• Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the first 2–3 weeks
• Apply approximately 1 inch of water per week, including rainfall
• Light daily watering may be needed during hot or dry weather until the grass is established

Proper watering will give the new grass the best chance to grow strong and healthy.

The City of Lanark leadership team appreciates everyone’s patience, cooperation, and support throughout this important infrastructure improvement project. Thank you for helping make this restoration process successful for the community!

SURF Fiber Internet Update 5/12/2026

Lanark City Council voted unanimously at the May 5, 2026 meeting to suspend the previously issued permits for SURF internet within the City of Lanark. This decision was made following several recent changes communicated by Surf Internet that were outside the City’s control and materially altered the project's direction and expectations. After careful review and discussion, the Council determined that moving forward under the revised circumstances no longer appears to be in the best interest of the City of Lanark and its residents.
The Council is presently exploring other fiber internet options for the City and hope to have more information to present in the very near future.
