Tomorrow night’s Business Meeting has a celebratory and straightforward agenda. I put a couple things here in the highlights that I wouldn’t normally call out, but I wanted to mention some details about them:

We will have a presentation from a number of KSD Librarians! This will be an opportunity for them to show us some of the cool programming and efforts they have implemented. Our libraries at NKMS and KHS have both been recently recognized with awards so this is a great time to celebrate all of our wonderful libraries & librarians!

Normally, this would be a quick vote in consent, but we will be talking about the addition of a kindergarten section at Keysor for the 26-27 school year. This is part of our newly developed process for class sizing & staffing and something I continue to be excited about.

Our CFO Scott Cook will be away at a conference so we will have a special guest, Director of Finance Scott Harmon, who will present our March Financials.

Dr. Matt Bailey, who (among a LOT of other duties) leads our Wellness Committee will be presenting some updates and results from student wellness efforts this year. I believe one topic of conversation will be how this year has gone with the new law regarding cell phone restrictions in schools.

Lastly, the board has a “first read” of some curriculum. This is something that doesn’t involve public presentations or reports, so I don’t typically include curriculum reads in my agenda highlights. As part of curriculum development/evaluation/renewal processes, the board reads the course guidelines and learning standards before voting to approve it. We are only one small step in the process. As it happens, I serve on the curriculum committee so I have some additional insight and I really wanted to call out a new course that is being added to KHS is the fall and is part of this round of reads/approvals. “AP Business & Finance” already has a waitlist of students who are excited to take this course. One of the things I’m most excited about is that it is a project-based course without specific course prerequisites, which I believe opens up AP coursework to more students. I hope this is just the start of us expanding our AP offerings in directions that capture more students from more demographics and with more diverse interests.

The KSD BOE Business Meeting will take place tomorrow at 6:30 PM in the Board Room at NKMS on the East side of the building, close to the Mid Meadows parking lot.

Three seats open. Three seats won. To say I’m blown away at this victory is a massive understatement. I’m happy that the work put in, the grind of the last 4 1/2 months has translated into winning a seat on the Kirkwood School Board. I’m so thankful to everyone who advised me, met with me, and just genuinely got on board with my platform and vision. It means so much. Time to roll up the sleeves and get to work.
Let’s go!!! 🙂

And a huge thank you to my team of Shelley, Julian and Ezra. I could not have done this without the three of you. Love you. ❤️

Final post prior to the big day tomorrow. I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank all of the wonderful friends that I’ve made on this campaign journey that I started on back in November. I cannot thank you enough, and you know who you are.

I’d also be remiss not to call out the work that myself, Susan Manuel Hill and Tanya Nolbert Craft have put in during this campaign. Collectively and on our own. Here’s a brief reminder to separate us out from the rest of the competition.

All three of us:

Endorsed by the KNEA and the AFL-CIO.
Knocked on more than 1000 doors throughout every corner of this amazing community.
Hosted multiple meet & greets to talk to the public to hear their concerns, suggestions, advice, and support.
Met with leaders in the community to gain insight and knowledge on their experiences in public service.
Showed up to Forums prepared, knowledgeable, and handled the task at hand with empathy and insight on the questions that were asked.

I may be preaching to the choir here a little bit, but maybe there are folks still undecided or not sure if we have what it takes.

We have what it takes to go forward and continue the work that the Board has done, look for ways to take it even further, with open conversation, debate, and perhaps even compromise. All the while always remembering why we are doing this work.

For the students.
For the community.
For all of us.

I humbly ask for your votes tomorrow for:

James Harding.
Susan Hill.
Tanya Craft.

See you at the polls.

Two days until Election Day.

First off, Happy Easter to everyone out there. I hope it was a nice day spent reflecting on the things that are meaningful to you and your families. This is an important election as it will dictate the Board Members that are a part of the new Strategic Plan approval for the School District. This election cannot happen without you. Please spread the word and get out and vote. Myself, Tanya Nolbert Craft, and Susan Manuel Hill are the three that have the endorsements of the Kirkwood NEA, and the AFL-CIO.

That means something. It means the teachers of the Kirkwood School District have put their trust and belief in us to carry this incredible work forward, knowing that it will be in good hands. The AFL-CIO shows that we have the backing of the Unions, again, trusting us to do the important work on behalf of everyone in the School District, and this amazing community of Kirkwood that we all call home.

Vote April 7th.
