Tomorrow night’s Business Meeting has a celebratory and straightforward agenda. I put a couple things here in the highlights that I wouldn’t normally call out, but I wanted to mention some details about them:
We will have a presentation from a number of KSD Librarians! This will be an opportunity for them to show us some of the cool programming and efforts they have implemented. Our libraries at NKMS and KHS have both been recently recognized with awards so this is a great time to celebrate all of our wonderful libraries & librarians!
Normally, this would be a quick vote in consent, but we will be talking about the addition of a kindergarten section at Keysor for the 26-27 school year. This is part of our newly developed process for class sizing & staffing and something I continue to be excited about.
Our CFO Scott Cook will be away at a conference so we will have a special guest, Director of Finance Scott Harmon, who will present our March Financials.
Dr. Matt Bailey, who (among a LOT of other duties) leads our Wellness Committee will be presenting some updates and results from student wellness efforts this year. I believe one topic of conversation will be how this year has gone with the new law regarding cell phone restrictions in schools.
Lastly, the board has a “first read” of some curriculum. This is something that doesn’t involve public presentations or reports, so I don’t typically include curriculum reads in my agenda highlights. As part of curriculum development/evaluation/renewal processes, the board reads the course guidelines and learning standards before voting to approve it. We are only one small step in the process. As it happens, I serve on the curriculum committee so I have some additional insight and I really wanted to call out a new course that is being added to KHS is the fall and is part of this round of reads/approvals. “AP Business & Finance” already has a waitlist of students who are excited to take this course. One of the things I’m most excited about is that it is a project-based course without specific course prerequisites, which I believe opens up AP coursework to more students. I hope this is just the start of us expanding our AP offerings in directions that capture more students from more demographics and with more diverse interests.
The KSD BOE Business Meeting will take place tomorrow at 6:30 PM in the Board Room at NKMS on the East side of the building, close to the Mid Meadows parking lot.
