I remember the moment vividly, like it was yesterday instead of 10 years ago, June 2014. Baylee and I were standing in the kitchen at our old house and I asked her what she wanted for her 7th birthday coming up in August. She didn’t even stop to think before she said, “I have enough toys, Mommy. Let’s being toys to the kids at Phoenix Children’s.” And with that simple request from Baylee’s heart, the Baylee’s Wish Toy Drive was born.
Baylee, Dustin and I thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for every single donation, every prayer, those who went shopping with us, those who helped fundraise, those who helped with toy deliveries, those to jumped into the terrifying world of childhood cancer. We couldn’t have helped so many kids over the last 10 years without your love and support. We love you all so very much for being on this journey with us.
It’s been an incredible 10 years. Priceless memories of countless hours shopping with the kiddos, delivering toys to the little warriors at PCH and watching their faces light up, the fundraising and planning and strategizing. And all of this led by my sweet miracle girl. All of the recognition and praise goes to Baylee for starting this beautiful project and for keeping it going for 10 wonderful years. Every year I asked her if she wanted to do it, because I never wanted her to feel forced or that she didn’t have a voice. And that’s why Dustin and I honor and respect her decision to step away and close this chapter. We are beyond proud of you, Baylee Grace, for your desire to help other children and your selflessness. Don’t ever give up on the power of hope, baby girl. And don’t ever stop believing in miracles, because you are living proof that miracles happen. We love you.
