It’s yard sale weekend, so I figured I’d be hanging out in the driveway until about 2:00 today chatting with people. I got a call for a mobile notarization for a member of the military who was traveling and needed something notarized before going back to Alabama!

They stopped by, browsed the yard sale for a minute, got their document notarized, and were back on the road.

Come for the bargains, leave with a notarized document… not exactly the yard sale activity I planned, but I’m always happy to help! 🇺🇸

It’s only 8:15am and I’ve already had the privilege of legally joining a wonderful couple in marriage!

It was a beautiful morning at the Farragut Branch Library, right by Founders Park, to make it official. Sign-and-go ceremonies like this are a simple, meaningful way to start your next chapter together.

In the middle of packing boxes as we are preparing to relocate within East TN, I took a quick break to meet a member of our military who is temporarily stationed at TYS for a training program. We met halfway, got her two probate related documents notarized in just a few minutes, and both got back to our busy days.

I had the opportunity to visit New Market yesterday afternoon, helping a wonderful couple complete the paperwork for a loan modification after the construction of their beautiful home finished.

The last time I was in Jefferson County was for an estate plan delivery ceremony in Dandridge. It’s such a beautiful part of East Tennessee, and I’m always glad for an excuse to get out this way.

Earlier this month, I got a call from someone at 11:00 p.m. who needed a document notarized before they left for work the next morning. I happened to be at a hotel getting ready to fly out of TYS myself the next day, but I had my laptop and a stable WiFi connection, so we were able to complete the notarization remotely in just a few minutes.

That’s one of my favorite things about Remote Online Notarization. As long as I have an internet connection, I can often help no matter where I am in Tennessee or where the signer happens to be, even if they’re overseas.

Life doesn’t always happen during business hours, and sometimes your notarization doesn’t have to either.

Do I Need an Appointment?

Appointments are encouraged, but not always required!

If you need a notarization today, call or text me. If my schedule allows, I'm happy to accommodate same-day appointments. If you're not in the area or if time is tight, we can also explore whether your document would be a good fit for Remote Online Notarization (RON).

For appointments scheduled in advance, I require a travel retainer to reserve your date and time.

Here's how it works:
✔ Cancel more than 2 hours before your appointment, and your travel retainer is fully refunded.
✔ Cancel less than 2 hours before your appointment, and your remaining balance is waived, but the travel retainer is non-refundable.

My goal is to make the notarization process as convenient and straightforward as possible while respecting everyone's time.

Following up on last week, a different variety of the question: Do I Need to Be in Tennessee for Remote Online Notarization?

Not necessarily.

One of the biggest misconceptions about Remote Online Notarization (RON) is that both the signer and the notary must be in Tennessee. While I must be physically located in Tennessee to perform a Tennessee notarization, the signer may often be located elsewhere.

As a Tennessee Remote Online Notary, I can frequently assist signers who are located in other states and, in some circumstances, outside the United States, provided they can complete the required identity verification and the notarization complies with Tennessee law.

This makes RON a convenient option for:

✈️ Travelers
🎓 College students away from home
🪖 Military members stationed elsewhere
🏖️ Snowbirds and seasonal residents
🌎 Americans living abroad

To complete a RON session, you'll typically need:

✔ A valid government-issued photo ID
✔ A device with a camera and a microphone
✔ A reliable internet connection
✔ The ability to complete identity verification

Every situation is different, and some documents may have additional requirements. If you're unsure whether your document is eligible for online notarization, reach out to the document's owner or issuer.

TL;dr: I must be in Tennessee to perform the notarization, but you do not need to be.
