Howard County Highway Department We maintain the county roadways and most bridges for Howard County. We do not maintain city streets or trash pickup. Nor do we maintain State Highways.

We have had several people asking what these are. Those are traffic counters that we use at the Howard County Highway Dept. They are not cameras! We use these to determine the traffic flows of our roads.

We will be paving on 400 East between State Rd 22 and 100 South today.

Please be aware of your surroundings when entering a construction zone!

We will be paving 100 North (Sycamore Rd.) between 500 East and 700 East. Please avoid this area today and as always please slow down and use caution when driving around construction!

UPDATE: We will be finishing the other half of 100 North today 10-7-26

Please be cautious of uneven pavement as you drive on Alto Road (250 S) through West Middleton. Our contractors milling machine broke down and we were not able to finish the milling we had planned today.

If you are in need of sandbags:
We have empty bags that you can pick up at Berkley Complex. You must bring a shovel with you, they are not provided here. The sand to fill them is located in the same area at the Howard County Highway Department There are bags in a Tote available to fill.
Look for the Sign - PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THE TOTE.
