#SOMDdoesgood It’s so much fun to see organizations working together in creative ways that impact the community!!

Our Jude House residents have been working hard for the United Way of Charles County resource pop up event, by helping Pure Play Every Day, Inc, make play kits to hand out! In these pictures they have made yarn balls and special projects for bowling and tic tac toe. Learning different coping skills, like working with your hands and being involved in the community, makes these partnerships a “win/win”.

We wanted to share what one of our volunteers, Esmeralda, is doing to help while remaining safely at home. She is making "fidget/sensory" blankets for the people we support with visural and sensory impairments. As you can see several of the tiles have "fidget" items attached to keep idle hands busy. This will bring so much comfort during such an anxious time for many people during this pandemic. Now , she is beginning to work on face masks! https://www.facebook.com/TheArcSomd/posts/10156950733675846
The Greater Waldorf Jaycees are recruiting new members ages 21-41. This is a group that makes an extraordinary impact and one that will change your life. Each of us can think very quickly of the people or organizations that make an impact in our own personal lives. Each of us possess the ability to make an impact on some scale. It's even more amazing when many people of the same mindset come together and work for a common goal. This is when the greatest impact is made, and feats not imagined possible before can easily be accomplished. The Greater Waldorf Jaycees is an organization that has done this year over year for the last 50 years. They have had impact that can be seen across Charles County and have left of footprint that will be seen for years. Every year the Greater Waldorf Jaycees raises over a million dollars which all goes back into the community. This has been through personal fundraising and through partnerships with local nonprofits helping them raise money for their own organizations. The Jaycees are currently looking for new members ages 21-41 that truly want to make a difference and impact in their own communities. The organization has the philosophy that eliminates the normal excuses that prevent most ideas or dreams from getting done. In order to achieve goals that have a real impact on solving problems in our community, we view time, money, and availability of expertise, as merely obstacles that can be easily overcome. The Greater Waldorf Jaycee is more than just a fundraising entity. It’s a group of members that have come together to form an extended family. The organization has many different events throughout the year for its members and their families to get involved in. Everything from parties, cookouts, poker games, trips, youth activities, and more. It offers certain aspects to every individual. The possibilities for meeting others, networking, finding new lifelong friends, developing new skills and abilities, and having a great time are all part of belonging to the organization. If you consider yourself a believer that you can make a difference in your community. If you can think outside the box, feel anything can be accomplished, and know that teamwork makes the dream work, the Jaycees is something you should check out. If you are interested in learning more, we are having a membership social on Wednesday, December 11th. We will be having appetizers and drinks so please RSVP to [email protected]. This is a great time to come out, enjoy free food and drinks, and hear about the great work that has been done and what the potential for what can be accomplished in the future. If you know someone else that may be a great fit for the organization, feel free to share this with to them. Thank You
