Children always ask about my reindeer, and I can see why -- they're amazing!

Unfortunately, the reindeer remain back at the North Pole because they only fly on one special night of the year: Christmas Eve! Why? Well, that's a story for another time. 🥰

But I do have the next best thing! I carry a custom set of reindeer cards in my travel bag so children can see their pictures. And I can share what makes each of them unique and special in their own way, including a cool fun fact about reindeer.

So if Mrs. Claus and I are paying you a special visit, I'm more than happy to share their photos and talk about them!

Oh, and I'm asked all the time: Do I have a favorite reindeer? The answer is: I do not. I love each one of them for their individual personalities, traits, and skills that they bring to the team!

Some children are a little shy, hesitant, or even downright frightened to meet Santa. We get it -- sometimes the big man in red can seem a bit intimidating!

Mrs. Claus and I have a few tricks up our sleeve to help with those situations.

First, having Mrs. Claus with me at events provides a natural motherly presence that can be welcoming and calming to a lot of children. Yes, sometimes just having her at my side and visiting with a young child first is all it takes to make everything feel comfortable and safe.

Second, we'll tone down our presence and let the child simply observe from where they're comfortable. We suggest grown-ups never force a fearful child to visit with us! Let them just watch for a bit and see other children interact with us. Sometimes it takes a few minutes for the little ones to warm up to us, and that's perfectly natural and okay!

Finally...Meet Sammy Santa! 🧸

Did you know when I make my yearly trip across the world delivering presents, there are TWO others in the sleigh besides me?

One of them is Tiny the Elf. If you meet me, ask me to tell you about him and why he accompanies me. If I have my bag of special items with me, I'll even show you where he stays during our journey around the world!

The other is Sammy. Because Mrs. Claus remains back at the North Pole to help the elves and monitor my journey, she gave me a special little bear many years ago to accompany me on Christmas Eve. It's my way of carrying her love with me throughout the long night.

Sammy loves having his photo taken, but he needs help sitting up and posing. So he loves it when a very special little boy or girl holds him so he can have his photo taken!

So if your child is a little apprehensive, you may see us ask them if they'd like to hold Sammy Santa so he can have his photo taken!

Oh, and Sammy isn't the ONLY special little bear we have. Many years ago, I gifted Mrs. Claus with Nick. Like Sammy, he loves it when a child holds him so he can have his photo taken. I'll be sure to feature a photo of Nick in a later post! 🥰

We get it -- nobody really thinks about Christmas this time of year. And if it weren't for "Christmas in July", it would probably be the furthest thing from our minds as we're hitting the pools, throwing food onto our grills, and spending time outdoors enjoying the beautiful weather.

But July typically is when we get the first quote requests for the upcoming Christmas season. Just this past week, we've received two requests for weekend dates in December, and we already have our first event officially booked.

So, if you have a date for your holiday event and are entertaining the idea of having a professionally educated, experienced, background checked and insured Santa and Mrs. Claus as part of your festivities, NOW is the time to start your booking request! Remember, you only need to pay a non-refundable retainer (equal to 50% of the total amount) to officially book us!

We're still thrilled to have been a small part of this amazing event, and we hope to be there for years to come! 🥰

Oh, and if you've never tried axe throwing, visit the fine folks at The Spinning Axe and give it a shot! It's big fun, and no, you don't need to be a big, brawny guy to do it, either. I've seen wee folk the size of my elves toss the smaller axes just fine!

Four fire departments gathered Saturday to compete in the first Battle of the Axes as a children’s fundraiser. The West Lafayette Fire Department brought home the trophy, but didn’t stress the victory as what’s important.

It was a fulfilling day at The Spinning Axe yesterday in downtown Lafayette for the inaugural Battle of the Axes event to raise funds for our local fire departments' "Shop with a Firefighter" programs!

While Mrs. Claus and I didn't see too many children yesterday, we thoroughly enjoyed meeting and talking with the ones who visited with us, and we hope you're enjoying your water balloons or sidewalk chalk courtesy of Balloons and More! We took photos with both children and grown-ups alike and just had an overall blast at this lively, fun gathering of our local first responders.

Special thanks to Jason and Barbara Whitenight, owners of The Spinning Axe, for hosting this wonderful event and being our gracious hosts for the afternoon. Also big thanks to our photographer, Melissa LaGuire, for her amazing skills behind the camera and capturing the smiles of the kids and kids-at-heart who posed for photos with us.

This event, which benefits underprivileged local children right here in the Greater Lafayette area, will pay huge dividends in lots of smiles and joy this holiday season. How could Santa and Mrs. Claus NOT be thrilled to be part of such an amazing thing? We think this first-time event is only the start of something bigger, and we hope to be a part of it for many years to come!

Santa Dave and Mrs. Claus attended the Ninth Street Hill Children's Box Parade this past Saturday, July 4.

In his address to the crowd, Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski said something that resonated with me. He said events like this are important to our neighborhood and our community. I couldn't agree more.

Before the event, we were chatting with one of the organizers, and he told us this was the first time they've had this event in nine years! We were shocked. We assumed it was taking place every year, but due to COVID and other reasons, it had been shelved for almost a decade.

So we were especially happy to see this free event for our families and children make a big comeback on our nation's 250th birthday!
Our dream is that one day we'll see both sides of Ninth Street lined with spectators to watch the kids walk proudly down the street, wearing their patriotic boxes and waving happily to everyone who came to see them.

Let's make that happen, Greater Lafayette! I challenge each one of you next year to come out with your chairs, find a nice, shady spot, and spend a few minutes cheering and clapping for our local kids! I know it will mean a lot to them, and of course, anything you do that's good for the kids will only help ensure you end up on the all-important Nice List by year's end!
