This Thanksgiving, let's honor our brave first responders who are working tirelessly today, rather than joining loved ones at the dinner table. Their sacrifice, courage, and unwavering commitment protect our communities every day. We sincerely thank you—today and always.

Today, we bid a fond farewell to our dedicated Crime Analyst, Edgar Aleniz 🥼🧬🧪

During his four years with the Laguna Beach Police Department, Edgar brought a data-driven approach to public safety, helping to identify and reduce crime, enhance operational efficiency among field personnel, and assist in the integration of new software applications that improved the department's police systems.

He also supported the Police, Fire, and Marine Safety Departments through his work as a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst. He served as a talented photographer for the department’s social media team—capturing the spirit of our people and our community.

Edgar holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Crime Analysis with a Minor in Geography, as well as a Certificate in Crime and Intelligence Analysis from California State University, Fullerton. His educational foundation, paired with his professionalism, integrity, and commitment to excellence, has left a lasting impact on our department.

Please join the Laguna Beach Police Employees Association in wishing Edgar continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors. Your dedication, character, and contributions will always be remembered, Edgar — thank you for everything you’ve done for the City of Laguna Beach. 💙

🌟 Celebrating the Retirement of Ross Fallah 🌟

After 21 years of dedicated service, we bid a fond farewell to Ross Fallah, who has faithfully served the City of Laguna Beach with honor, pride, and heart.

Ross began his journey in 2002 as the city’s first Citizen on Patrol (COP), where his commitment and enthusiasm quickly shone—earning him two awards for over 1,000 hours of volunteer service.

From 2004 to 2007, Ross became the first year-round Beach Patrol Officer, paving the way for the program’s success long after the summer season ended.

He went on to serve as a Parking Services Officer from 2007 to 2017, and for the past eight years, as a Senior PSO, leading and mentoring the city’s Beach Patrol, Parking Services, volunteers, cadets, and Traffic Control Aides with professionalism and care.

Ross’s passion for community extended beyond the field—he played a key role in the Laguna Beach Citizens Academy, first as an assistant from 2002 to 2016, helping produce 14 academies, and later as the program coordinator from 2016 to 2024, successfully organizing 11 more.

Beyond his incredible service record, Ross will be remembered for his warm personality and love of cooking, often treating his coworkers to his delicious homemade meals—a true reflection of his generous spirit.

Thank you, Ross, for your 21 years of outstanding service and for making Laguna Beach a better place for all. You’ve left an indelible mark on our community, and you’ll be deeply missed.

🎉 Congratulations on your well-deserved retirement 👏🏼

Cheers,

Your Laguna Beach Police employee family 💙

Farewell to Officer Oblea (left)

After 5.5 years of dedicated service to the Laguna Beach Police Department, we say goodbye to Officer Oblea. He started his career here as a jailer before becoming a police officer, where he went on to serve as our Homeless Liaison Officer. Over the years, he also took on many important responsibilities, including serving as a Field Training Officer and contributing to the Crime Scene Investigation Team, Recruitment Team, and Drone Team.

He has always been known for his commitment to the community, his willingness to help others, and his calm, steady demeanor no matter the situation. His professionalism and qualifications, supported by his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from San Diego State, made him a valuable member of our team and someone we could always count on.

He will be greatly missed both inside the department and out in the community. We are grateful for all he has given to Laguna Beach, and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in the next chapter of his life.

👏🏼 A huge thank you and congratulations to Park Rangers James Rose and Darryl Byrd for their heroic rescue of Who-dini, the great horned owl 🦉who recently found himself in quite a predicament!

After Who-dini accidentally landed on a glue trap that stuck to his feet and left him unable to use his claws, he struggled to fly, land, or defend himself against predators — including the notorious Rodney the red-tailed hawk 🦅 and his relentless murder of crows.

Recognizing the owl’s distress, Rangers Rose and Byrd quickly sprang into action. After several patient and skillful attempts, they were finally able to safely capture Who-dini and transport him to the Hospital in Lake Forest for the care he desperately needed.

Their compassion, teamwork, and quick thinking not only saved Who-dini’s life but also exemplify the very best of what it means to be a Park Ranger.

Outstanding work, Rangers Rose and Byrd — our community and our wildlife thank you!

Today, we honor Labor Day—a holiday born from the strength, sacrifice, and solidarity of America’s working people.

Labor Day was first celebrated in 1882 in New York City, created by labor unions to recognize the contributions of workers who built this country and to call for fair wages, safe working conditions, and dignity in the workplace. In 1894, it became a federal holiday after years of organizing and sacrifice by those who believed in the power of unity.

For the Laguna Beach Police Employees’ Association, this day is more than just the unofficial end of summer—it’s a reminder of why we stand together. The protections, rights, and working conditions we have today exist because of those who came before us and refused to give up on fairness.

As we serve our community, we also stand with all workers—teachers, nurses, first responders, tradespeople, and countless others—who continue to make sacrifices every day to keep our communities safe, strong, and thriving.

On this Labor Day, we honor the history, we recommit to solidarity, and we thank all workers whose dedication makes our country what it is.

Happy Labor Day from the Laguna Beach Police Employees’ Association.

This National Police Week, we were honored to sponsor members of our department to attend the events in Washington, D.C., where they joined others from across the nation to honor the 345 officers who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2024. As part of the tribute, our team also laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in memory of fallen hero Jon Coutchie. We carry their legacy with us—always remembered, never forgotten.
