Testing on Thursday, June 4th will be available to Village of Paguate residents ONLY as the village remains closed.

Stay tuned for more POL COVID-19 test dates coming to a village near you! Testing assists the Pueblo in a number of ways, but ultimately it identifies a baseline which helps to determine the overall health of the Pueblo. Testing is not mandatory but it is highly encouraged.

If you are unable to get to a scheduled POL testing site, please contact the EOC at (505) 328-5682 or message us.

BEGINNING TOMORROW:
The Health Education and Diabetes Program will be giving out FREE Cloth Face Masks to the Laguna Community Elders and those with other chronic health conditions.

This month over 360 cloth face masks have been given out to the Elders in our community. We would like to “THANK” the Senior Center who helped with distribution.

They will be going out to all the villages to distribute to those in need. The packet will also contain important information regarding how to use and care for your cloth face masks and other useful information.

All the cloth face masks were made from our Laguna seamstresses. We are grateful that we have talented tribal members doing this for our community.

If you know of anyone who needs a face mask, that don’t have access to internet, please contact Lori Riley Aragon. Please post and share with family and friends.

An update from LDOE:

May 18, 2020

Dear Parents:

Thank you so much for your continued patience and support of Laguna Elementary and Middle Schools during the 2019-2020 School Year. No one could have imagined that when we dismissed classes for Spring Break back on March 13, that it would be the last day at school for our students. The school staffs greatly miss the face-to-face engagements and interactions with your child(ren). We know how important school is, not just for learning, but for social aspects as well.

LDoE is currently working with the Pueblo, Bureau of Indian Education, NM Public Education Department, and other entities to determine a plan to re-open school in August 2020. Our plan will be sure to address any Social Distancing, Personal Protective Equipment, hygiene, and other requirements. Our first priority is community safety. We will communicate information on school re-opening to you as soon as we can, but for sure no later than July 20, 2020.

As for the 2019-2020 School Year, please be aware of the following:

· LMS report cards were issued at the beginning of May. Students received a grade of SAT (Satisfactory) or UNSAT (Unsatisfactory).

· All LMS students are being promoted to the next grade level.

· LES did not issue report cards for the last Trimester.

· All LES students, except for six, are being promoted to the next grade level. LES has directly contacted any parent whose child is being retained. If LES has not contacted you, your child is not being retained.

· Yearbooks – if you preordered an LES or LMS yearbook and have not already received it, please come to the front of LES and we will bring it out to you. LES Yearbooks are still available for sale. Cost is $10. Please come to the front of LES and we will bring it out to you.

· Certificates of Transition for grades Kinder, 5 and 8 are being mailed home.

· LES and LMS Staff will continue to reach out to students during the month of June to connect with students and offer any needed support. Please let us know if there is anything the school can do to help or support you.

· Registration packets for the 2020-2021 School Year will be available in July.

At the end of the 2019-2020 School Year, Mr. Trujillo retired. We would like to thank Mr. Trujillo for his hard work and dedication to the LDoE students and community. He will be missed. Recently, the LDoE Board of Education approved a reorganization and Dr. Gurule was hired to lead both the LES and the LMS beginning May 11, 2020. Please contact Dr. Gurule at [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns about LES or LMS.

As always, our parents are our partners in education. We look forward to seeing you in the Fall.

ENS ANNOUNCEMENT:
GRADUATION WELL WISHES AND REMINDERS
The Pueblo of Laguna Emergency Operations Team would like to send our sincerest congratulations to the graduating class of 2020. We are very proud of your accomplishments and look forward to seeing what the future has in store for you all.

As a friendly reminder, we are still in the midst of confronting this pandemic. Just as the COVID-19 virus is relentless in its effects across the country, state, and in our sister Pueblos, we should also continue to be relentless in our commitment to keep COVID-19 outside of our community. Please remember our best defense against this virus is you!

Consider alternative celebrations which will not expose yourself or your family to places or people who may be unknowingly carrying the virus. Celebrate in accordance with the social distance protocols as outlined in the current Pueblo Order. Be creative and include other family members and households by using video and/or pictures. Luckily most of us have this technology and are able to bring people into our homes virtually.

The Pueblo of Laguna is very fortunate to not have any positive cases within the reservation. We want to continue to keep on this track to ensure all of our community members remain safe and healthy. One case for the Pueblo could have deadly consequences for those we love and care for. Please be mindful of others and practice good judgement. Again, congratulations to our graduates and your families. We look forward to a time when we can celebrate you and your accomplishments in person.
