A New Groundcover Appeal
Taylor’s Florida-Friendly Favorites #2 of 4

”Another beautiful groundcover is Fogfruit (Phyla nodiflora), which is also known as Turkey Tangle or Frogfruit. This time of year you will see this Florida native showing-off it’s small purplish-white flowers. Many homeowners view this as a turfgrass w**d, but in fact, it is a wonderful groundcover that can add any appeal to a landscape. Fogfruit grows in full sun to partial shade and prefers to well-drained to partially drained soils, but does like regular moisture. This can be used a low-growing groundcover, in some cases as an alternative to turfgrass. Do not be surprised if you find multiple caterpillar species munching on Fogfruit. It is an important host plant for a few different butterfly species.”

At the Apopka Police Department, making a difference extends far beyond answering calls for service. It means building relationships, serving others, and creating meaningful connections throughout the community.

Chief Quinn-Henry proudly recognizes Sergeant Mark Creaser, Community Policing Sergeant, for his exceptional commitment to service and leadership.

Sergeant Creaser serves as a vital link between the police department and the community we proudly serve. He coordinates police department volunteers, organizes community events, conducts business safety assessments, assists with election operations, supports neighborhood meetings, celebrates children’s birthdays, and serves as Sergeant-at-Arms during City Council meetings. His efforts help strengthen partnerships and foster trust throughout Apopka.

In addition to his community engagement responsibilities, Sergeant Creaser provides outstanding leadership as the coordinator of the Apopka Police Department Honor Guard. Through his dedication, professionalism, and attention to detail, he ensures that our department properly honors fallen officers, participates in ceremonial events with dignity, and proudly represents the City of Apopka throughout the region.

Whether working behind the scenes to support a community event or standing in formation to represent our department with honor, Sergeant Creaser consistently demonstrates what servant leadership looks like.

Thank you, Sergeant Creaser, for your unwavering dedication, professionalism, and commitment to making Apopka a safer, stronger, and more connected community.

Take a look at the Apopka Police Department jurisdictional report.

We are presenting data. 📉

If you want to make disparaging and offensive remarks please do it on your own wall. Please do not do it here. Thank you.

After reviewing year-to-date crime statistics, the Apopka Police Department is pleased to report a reduction in both Violent Crimes and Property Crimes compared to the same period last year.

The department proudly serves more than 67,000 residents within the City of Apopka, and these results reflect the dedication of the officers, professional staff, community partners, businesses, and residents working together to maintain a safe city.

It is important to remember that not every incident reported as occurring in “Apopka” actually happens within the City of Apopka. Many surrounding unincorporated areas have an Apopka mailing address but fall under the jurisdiction of our law enforcement partners. The statistics shown reflect crimes reported and investigated within the Apopka Police Department’s jurisdiction.
While there is always more room for improvement, these numbers demonstrate that proactive policing, strong community partnerships, and shared responsibility are making a positive impact.

Together, let’s continue to keep the City of Apopka a safe and thriving community where families can live, work, and grow.

Old Ike will be celebrating American Eagle 🦅 Day 20 June at The Avian Reconditioning Center for Birds of Prey

Get there early to spend more time and get a photo with Ike and young Max.

The date June 20th, 1782, holds great significance for both the United States and the bald eagle. Do you know why?

On this day, the Continental Congress officially adopted the design for the Great Seal of the United States, featuring the bald eagle as its central figure. The final decision to choose the bald eagle took multiple committees and several years to complete. In fact, the earliest designs didn’t include eagles at all!

In honor of this historic adoption, we now celebrate American Eagle Day on June 20th. It’s also a day to raise awareness and celebrate the incredible comeback of bald eagles after their devastating population decline in the mid-20th century.

We’ll be celebrating bald eagles right here at ARC on June 20th from 10 AM to 1 PM with our bald eagle ambassadors, Isaiah (Ike) and Max! We’ll also be sharing more fascinating bald eagle facts over the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned!
