Kidder Township Residents,

Severe Winter Weather Advisory – Public Safety Notice

A severe winter weather system is expected to impact Northeastern Pennsylvania and surrounding areas over the next several days, with estimated snowfall totals of 12–20 inches.

For the safety of the public and to allow emergency and public works crews to do their jobs effectively, we ask for your cooperation with the following:

Snow Removal & Parking
• Please move vehicles off the roadway and into driveways or designated parking areas wherever possible.
• Vehicles left on the street significantly delay snow plowing and emergency response, creating hazardous road conditions for everyone.

Travel Safety
• Avoid travel if at all possible. Staying home reduces the risk of crashes and allows first responders to focus on true emergencies.
• If travel is absolutely necessary:
• Reduce speed 10–15 mph below the posted limit
• Increase following distance and allow for longer stopping distances
• Avoid sudden braking, acceleration, or sharp turns

Additional Safety Reminders
• Clear snow and ice from all windows, mirrors, headlights, and roofs before driving
• Use headlights during snowfall for better visibility
• Check on elderly neighbors or those with mobility issues
• Keep emergency supplies in your vehicle (blanket, flashlight, charger, water)

Our public works crews will be working around the clock, but your cooperation is essential in keeping roads passable and the community safe.

Thank you for doing your part; patience with a little bit of caution can save lives. Please stay safe and stay warm.

Kidder Township Residents,

As we welcome the New Year, the Kidder Township Police Department reminds everyone to celebrate responsibly. If you choose to drink, please plan ahead and arrange a sober ride home. Impaired driving puts lives at risk, including your own.

Please be advised that the department will have increased patrols and enforcement measures in place throughout the holiday period. These efforts are intended to help ensure the safety of our community and those visiting the area.

Our goal is simple, to prevent tragedies before they happen. Make the right choice. Drive sober. Arrive home safely.

Kidder Township Residents,

A Reminder of What Community Policing Is All About

In the early morning hours of December 12th, while patrolling in the area of State Route 903, Officer Joshua Silfee came across a male walking along the shoulder of the roadway at approximately 3:00 a.m. The individual appeared distressed and was not dressed appropriately for the frigid temperatures.

Officer Silfee made contact and quickly learned that the individual, who identified himself as “De” is autistic and had become lost.

Our patrol officers are equipped with specialized items in their vehicles designed to help calm and comfort individuals with autism and sensory sensitivities during what can otherwise be an overwhelming situation. Using his training, patience, and compassion, Officer Silfee was able to help De feel safe and supported.

Officer Silfee continued working diligently until he was able to locate De’s caregiver and safely return him home.

But his kindness didn’t stop there.

Knowing what an incredible young man De is, and sensing that he had been having a difficult time; Officer Silfee wanted to make sure that De felt just how much he mattered. So, he reached out to the North Pole and spoke with Santa himself, asking if he could make a special stop this year for his new friend.

Santa agreed; but said he would need a little help.

So on December 14th, 2025 Christmas came early for De. Santa delivered gifts from the North Pole, along with generous donations from members of the Kidder Township Police Department.

We wanted to ensure that De knew he was heard, that he was safe, and that he is cared for by every member of our agency; especially Officer Silfee.

We would also like to take a moment to commend Officer Joshua Silfee for a job exceptionally well done. His vigilance, compassion, and dedication to our community serve as a reminder that no good deed goes unnoticed.

Because of officers like him, Kidder Township is a safer, and kinder place.

Kidder Township Residents,

Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Convicted Felon in Possession of Multiple Fi****ms

The Kidder Township Police Department announces the arrest of a convicted felon and the seizure of multiple illegally possessed fi****ms and narcotics following a traffic stop conducted on 12/2/2025 near the intersection of State Route 940 and State Route 534 in White Haven.

At approximately 2100 hours, Officer Mason Moran of the Kidder Township Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a silver Toyota Camry after being alerted by the Automated License Plate Reader that the vehicle was operating with an expired registration. Upon making initial contact with the driver, Joshua Grasley, age 47, of Berwick, PA, a records check revealed that Grasley did not possess a valid driver’s license.

As indicators of criminal activity became apparent during the encounter, Officer Moran requested Officer Silfee to the scene to assist. Together, Officers Moran and Silfee continued the investigation, which led to a lawful search of the vehicle. The search resulted in the seizure of (2) AR-15 rifles, (3) handguns, several rounds of ammunition, and multiple quantities of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia.

A further records check confirmed that Joshua Grasley is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing any fi****ms under Pennsylvania law.

Grasley was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Carbon County Correctional Facility. He was arraigned and remanded in lieu of $100,000 straight bail. He faces the following criminal charges:
• Persons Not to Possess, Use, Manufacture, Control, Sell, or Transfer Fi****ms – Felony 1
• Fi****ms Not to Be Carried Without a License – Felony 3
• Possession of a Controlled Substance – Misdemeanor
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Misdemeanor
• Multiple Summary Traffic Violations

This arrest and significant firearm seizure were the direct result of proactive policing, strong teamwork, and the coordinated efforts of the on duty police officers of the Kidder Township Police Department; who worked seamlessly from the initial stop through the investigation and arrest. Their actions removed dangerous weapons and illegal drugs from our community and prevented them from being used to cause harm.

The Kidder Township Police Department remains committed to safeguarding our residents through teamwork, vigilance, and professional policing.

Kidder Township Residents,

On November 14th, 2025, in the early hours of the morning, Patrolman Vincent Morrow and Patrolman Michael Nikityuk demonstrated the very best of what it means to serve the citizens of Kidder Township.

Responding to a motor vehicle accident involving a burning vehicle, both officers acted without hesitation. With complete disregard for their own personal safety, they pulled an unconscious driver from the fire, rendered immediate lifesaving aid, and worked with EMS to ensure he was safely transported for further treatment. Their swift actions and calm professionalism directly resulted in the preservation of a human life.

At this month’s township meeting, Patrolman Morrow and Patrolman Nikityuk were formally recognized for their heroic efforts by Lake Harmony Fire Department Chief Ralph Lennon and Kidder Township Police Chief Matthew Kuzma. Their commendation is well-deserved and reflects the highest standards of this department.

Their actions embody the core values that guide us every day:

Dedication: answering the call no matter the hour, the conditions, or the dangers involved.

Service: placing the needs and safety of our community above all else.

Honor: carrying ourselves with humility, courage, and respect for the badge we wear.

Integrity: doing the right thing simply because it is right.

We are proud of Patrolman Morrow and Patrolman Nikityuk, and grateful for their unwavering commitment to the people of Kidder Township.

Their example reminds us why we serve and what it truly means to protect others.

Kidder Township Residents,

🎃 Trunk or Treat at Hickory Run State Park! 👻

Even though we rolled in a little late after a few calls for service, the Kidder Township Police Department had an absolute blast joining the Hickory Run State Park Rangers and staff for today’s Trunk or Treat!

It was a great turnout overall with plenty of smiles and costumes; Well until the candy ran out! We even caught up with our friends from Lake Harmony Rescue Squad and dropped off a little “care package” to help refill their stash!

A huge thank you to the Hickory Run State Park Service, Beltzville State Park Service, and our partners at the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission for coming out to show their support. It’s always great spending time with our fellow public safety and conservation professionals.

Already looking forward to next year’s event! 🚓🍬🎃
