Orion Township Declares “Mother’s Day REDO” to Support Local Businesses Impacted by Water Main Break
Orion Township, MI - When a water main break forced Orion Township into a State of Emergency on Mother’s Day, the impact reached far beyond the water system. Many local businesses lost one of the busiest and most important days of the year as celebrations were canceled, postponed, or moved elsewhere. In the days that followed, restaurants, retailers, and service providers temporarily closed or reduced operations, sacrificing revenue while supporting efforts to protect and restore critical infrastructure for the community.
A Community “REDO” for Orion.
Orion Township, in partnership with the Orion Area Chamber of Commerce, the Lake Orion Downtown Development Authority, and the Downtown Lake Orion Illuminators, is declaring June 14 a community-wide “Mother’s Day REDO,” with REDO Week running June 14–20.
REDO stands for Retail. Experience. Dine. Orion.
The initiative is designed to encourage community members to revisit local businesses and help restore some of the visits, sales, and celebrations that were disrupted on Mother’s Day.
From rebooking a missed brunch to purchasing a gift, scheduling an experience, or simply choosing to shop and dine locally, the goal is to turn out in support of the businesses that continue to make Orion a vibrant community.
"When Orion Township needed help, our neighboring communities showed up for us. Our residents supported businesses throughout the region during the shutdown, and we’re incredibly grateful for the kindness we received. REDO Week is our opportunity to invite everyone back to Orion Township to dine, shop, celebrate, and help our local businesses recover from one of the most important missed weeks of the year. We look forward to returning the support that was shown to us," said Supervisor Chris Barnett.
Supporting Local Businesses
Local businesses are not being asked to incur additional costs or create special programming to participate in REDO Week. The goal is to raise community awareness and encourage residents to show up in support. While some establishments may choose to offer promotions, events, tastings, or Mother's Day "do-over" experiences, and Township messaging will help amplify those efforts, participation beyond normal business operations is not expected.

Throughout REDO Week, community members are encouraged to share photos of themselves, their friends, or their families supporting local businesses using for a chance to win gift cards and other prizes.
