The OMA Board of Trustees met in person and virtually on Saturday, adopting resolutions on Evidence-Based Public Health and Vaccine Policy and Safeguarding the Public from Nitrous Oxide Use Disorder. We were joined by guest speaker Oregon Rep. Ben Bowman, who emphasized clinicians’ crucial role as advocates. “You’re in a unique position as experts that elected officials trust,” he said. “Your voice can matter a great deal, and I hope that you'll use that opportunity.”

A message from SmokeFreeOregon on World No To***co Day:

The Oregon To***co Retail License Program has decreased youth access to to***co for the fourth year in a row. After nearly 26% of retailers sold commercial to***co products to those under the age of 21 in 2022, Oregon's violation rate has dropped to 11%. Thanks to the commitment of retailers and community partners, fewer youth and young adults in Oregon can access these products, leading to lower addiction rates and life-long use.

A message for your patients from Rethink the Drink in collaboration with the Oregon Health Authority:

Ever notice how drinking leaves you more anxious the next day? That's because alcohol affects our emotional regulation. When we're stressed and reach for a drink, what are we actually needing at that moment? Drinking less alcohol is one of the best steps you can take to improve your mental health. When you cut back, you can begin to experience genuine calm. Not the kind that fades with the next drink, but the kind your brain can naturally create.

A message for your patients from Rethink the Drink in collaboration with the Oregon Health Authority:

Older adults are drinking more than previous generations did at the same age. This increases the chance of getting dementia, diabetes, and cancer, and can also make these kinds of conditions worse. Alcohol also can make medicines less effective or cause harmful side effects. But no matter how old you are, drinking less, or not at all, is always better for your health.
