City of Lake Park Announces Storm Cleanup Procedures and Volunteer Coordination

Following last night’s storm, the City of Lake Park is launching a coordinated effort to assist residents with property cleanup and debris removal.

To ensure a swift and safe recovery, the City has issued the following guidelines:

Curbside Brush & Branch Collection

Residents are asked to move fallen branches and tree debris to the curb.
City crews will be circulating throughout the community to pick up curbside debris over the next week.
CRITICAL SAFETY WARNING: Check for Power Lines

Look Before You Move: Please carefully inspect all branches and limbs before moving them. Ensure there are no downed power lines or wires tangled in the debris.
What to Do: If you spot any wires in or near your branches, stay far away and immediately call Lake Park Utilities to inspect the area. Do not attempt to move the debris yourself.
Community Assistance & Volunteer Opportunities

The City is actively coordinating help for neighbors who cannot physically clear their yards.

Need Help? If you are physically unable to clean up your yard, please call City Hall at 712-832-3527. The City will work to connect you with available volunteers.
Want to Help? If you are able-bodied and willing to assist your neighbors with cleanup, please call City Hall to be added to the volunteer list or directed to a resident in need.

Tonight the Lake Park Rescue 2nd/3rd grade baseball team completed their season with a great game and big win against Okoboji tonight! We want to thank each and every one of these boys for wearing the Star of Life on their sleeves proudly! Great season young men!

During National EMS Week, we recognize and honor the extraordinary men and women of Emergency Medical Services nationwide — especially our rural EMS volunteers who serve as the backbone of so many communities.

Last night’s storms throughout the region were a powerful reminder of just how vital these individuals are. While most of us were sheltering in place, EMS personnel and volunteers were already on the road, responding to emergencies, checking on neighbors, coordinating with first responders, and keeping their communities informed and safe. They put their own lives on the line without hesitation so others could be protected.

In rural communities, EMS volunteers do far more than answer emergency calls. They are friends, neighbors, farmers, teachers, parents, and community leaders who step forward in moments of crisis because they care deeply about the people they serve. Their dedication, courage, and selflessness often go unseen until tragedy or disaster strikes — and then they are among the very first to respond.

This National EMS Week, we thank every EMT, Paramedic, Dispatcher, First Responder, and volunteer who stands ready day and night to answer the call. Your service saves lives, strengthens communities, and reminds us what true public service looks like.

To all EMS professionals and volunteers: your commitment does not go unnoticed, and your communities are safer because of you.

Where the heat is intentional… and the fire trucks are on standby for the 8th Annual Battle of the Chili Pots!

🌶️ This isn’t just chili.

Our firefighters battle flames for a living—now they’re turning up the heat with pots of chili they might require protective gear. Expect bold spices, heroic beans, and recipes forged in the same environment where fire fears us.

🔥 Too hot? We’ve got hoses.
🌶️ Too spicy? That’s a you problem.
🚒 Too delicious? Absolutely.

Hosted at the Spirit Lake Fire Department, all proceeds go to support your local fire departments!
