The Fremont-Winema National Forest has issued an emergency closure order for the Wrights Spring fire. This order is being implemented to protect public safety and to allow firefighters to operate efficiently in the area. The closure will remain in effect until modified or rescinded.

The closure area begins at the intersection of State Highway 140 and Sprague River Road and continues northwest along Sprague River Road to the junction of State Highway 97. Thence continuing south along State Highway 97 to the junction of Forest Service Road 9718. Thence continuing east following National Forest Boundary to its intersection with State Highway 140. Thence continuing northeast along State Highway 140 terminating at the intersection with Sprague River Road. All within Klamath County, Oregon.

Forest Access South-Central Oregon Summer Update

The Fremont-Winema National Forest planned culvert replacement project starts Aug 1, 2026, on Forest Road 34 just past Mitchell Monument Documentary Site. The road will be temporarily closed and not passable during the replacement.

At Brownsworth Creek and the 34 Rd, the Forest Service is partnering with Trout Unlimited to replace an undersized, passage barrier culvert with aquatic organism passage structures.

Replacing these culverts with aquatic organism passage designed structures will upgrade the existing road infrastructure to better handle spring runoff and storm events. Replacement will also directly address recovery threats to federally-listed bull trout in the South Fork Sprague watershed.

If you are seeking access to the area, please use the alternate route from Quartz Mountain on Forest Road 3660.

South-Central Oregon Fire Weather Update

Portions of land managed by the South-Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership in Klamath and Lake Counties will be under a Red Flag Warning.
• A Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 2:00 p.m. this afternoon to 8:00 p.m. PDT this evening for strong, gusty winds and low relative humidity.

A Red Flag Warning is issued when weather conditions promote the rapid spread of fire, which may become life‑threatening. These conditions are either occurring now or will begin soon.

Sink Fire Update: July 17, 2026

Containment lines held overnight, and the estimated size remains at one acre.

Today, fire crews will continue mop-up operations.

This will be the final update unless conditions change. Thank you to the fire crews for their quick response and hard work.

New Wildfire Alert

South-Central Oregon fire crews are responding to a new start in north Lake County. The wildfire is located near the East Lava Field Wilderness Study Area and Green Mountain. The Sink Fire is currently estimated at two acres.

Firefighters are on scene and engaged in a full suppression response.
• Two engines are on scene.
• Additional resources have been ordered, including air support.

Please avoid the area for the safety of the public and firefighters.
