During Winter Storm Gianna, our Lancaster EMS teams answered the call when our community needed them most responding to 138 calls for service throughout the storm from January 31st through February 1st. Through increased voluntary staffing, crews ensured continuous support for our citizens despite challenging conditions and remaining away from their families during this difficult time.
Even with dangerous, icy road conditions, operations were carried out safely and professionally, resulting in zero injuries.

A sincere thank you to our local Public Safety Departments, Department of Transportation, Public Works, County Administration, & County Council for their long hours and dedicated support. It was truly a team effort, and we are grateful to work alongside such committed partners.
Proud of everyone who stepped up to keep our community safe.

With temps approaching single digits tonight and melting snow during the day, makes for a dangerous situation for Lancaster County residents. Residents still need to be cautious driving tonight and tomorrow morning.

Some of the most common medical calls received during winter storms has to do with home oxygen. Here are some tips to stay prepared and a message from EMS Director Clay Catoe.

-Cold air can worsen shortness of breath, especially in COPD or asthma.
-Cover your nose and mouth with a scarf or mask when outdoors to warm inhaled air.
-Avoid going outside during extreme cold or windy conditions when possible.
-If oxygen feels less effective or breathing suddenly worsens, seek medical help.
-Have a backup oxygen supply (portable tanks) ready at all times.
-Know how long your backup oxygen lasts.
-Register with your electric company as a medical priority customer if possible.
-Keep emergency contacts, oxygen provider info, and prescriptions easily accessible.
-If using a concentrator, ask your supplier about battery backups or generators.
