We are blessed and grateful for the men and women who serve our County with EMS organizations. Our quality of life is directly impacted by people willing to serve as first responders to protect and save lives. It’s fitting to acknowledge and honor their service as we do during National EMS week. Thanks to all of our EMS organizations and people serving in various EMS roles, to Darrell Fisher, President of the Lancaster County EMS Council and to our Public Safety Department that works directly with EMS and other first responders. It was great to see cadets, the next generation of EMS, as they went through training and demonstrations.

We recognized National Bike Month on Saturday with members of the Lancaster Bike Club. Each year we appreciate the financial contribution the Club makes to help with the upkeep of our wonderful, covered bridges. Did you know that we have the most actively used public covered bridges of any county? Lancaster County has become a destination for bicycle enthusiasts to ride on our beautiful scenic roads and trails. This in turn has spurred positive local economic activity along the trail corridors. Stay tuned for more on this as we finish up the updated County Parks & Trails Master Plan and the EDC finalizes the Outdoor Recreation Economic Study for Lancaster County.

This week we mark National Police Week by recognizing and thanking our police officers across Lancaster County. As a public official, our top priority is the safety of our citizens. We are fortunate to live in one of the safest counties in the Commonwealth. This is in large part due to our police officers who put their safety and lives on the line to protect others. Beyond safety, they are ambassadors for our communities, helping people with a myriad of issues and information. So grateful for their work in keeping Lancaster County a special place where people desire to live, work and raise a family.
