We plan to deliver a letter requesting his action. Senseless killing and destruction, chaos, and fiscal irresponsibility characterize our current regime, and he is complicit in supporting it.

Re: End the Iran War Now — Stop Funding Unauthorized Hostilities and Pursue Peace
Dear Representative Smucker,
We are writing on behalf of the undersigned organizations to urge you to help end the war with Iran. Your constituents call on you to stop funding unauthorized military operations, enforce Congress’s war powers, demand accountability for civilian deaths, and pursue diplomacy.
This war must end now. Continued fighting risks more lives, wastes taxpayer money, and threatens regional stability without resolving concerns about Iran’s nuclear program, missile capabilities, or human rights record.
The human toll is devastating. During the war’s first 39 days, as many as 2,362 Iranian civilians were reportedly killed, including 376 children. The bombing of an elementary school in Minab reportedly killed 120 children and dozens of teachers and staff. A reported strike on a wedding party in Kohestak raises further concerns. At least 18 American servicemembers have also died. These losses demand accountability and an urgent path toward peace.
The war has disrupted regional security and energy supplies while adding to American families’ financial burdens. The United States has reportedly spent more than $100 billion on the conflict and its consequences, and the administration has requested at least $67 billion more. Congress must exercise its constitutional authority and stop financing unauthorized hostilities.
We urge you to take four concrete steps:
1. Defund unauthorized military operations.
Pledge to vote NO on defense authorization, appropriations, supplemental funding, and continuing-resolution legislation that fails to prohibit funding for unauthorized U.S. military operations against Iran. Do not allow must-pass legislation to perpetuate this war.
2. Enforce Congress’s war powers.
Support and enforce H. Con. Res. 86 and applicable war powers measures directing the President to terminate hostilities. Use congressional oversight and funding restrictions, along with other lawful means, to ensure compliance with Congress’s constitutional authority.
3. Investigate deadly strikes on civilians.
Support independent, credible investigations into the Minab school bombing, the reported strike on the Kohestak wedding party, and other credible allegations of unlawful attacks. Make findings public to the greatest extent possible and ensure accountability for established wrongdoing.
4. Pursue diplomacy and oppose harmful sanctions escalation.
Urge President Trump to resume negotiations with Iran and pursue an agreement that addresses nuclear concerns, reduces regional tensions, and ends the war. Oppose additional sanctions that undermine diplomacy or deepen civilian suffering, and support relief where sanctions impede access to essential goods such as food and medicine.
These four actions—ending unauthorized funding, enforcing the law, investigating civilian deaths, and pursuing diplomacy—would protect lives, safeguard American servicemembers, and ensure responsible use of taxpayer money.
Upcoming votes on defense authorization and funding legislation offer critical opportunities to act. We urge you to oppose measures that sustain unauthorized hostilities and press the administration to return to negotiations.
Our organizations may differ in background and perspective, but we share a commitment to human life, accountability, responsible spending, and peace.
Representative Smucker, please help end the Iran war now. We ask you to publicly address these four demands and provide a written response explaining what steps you will take.
