Founded in 1983 in Johnstown, PA, by a group of Citizens Concerned for Human Life, Mom’s House® offers single parents, facing an unplanned pregnancy, with a viable, practical alternative to the despair of abortion and the tragedy of welfare.
Mom's House® is nondenominational faith based, nonprofit, licensed childcare centers. Infant, Toddler and Pre-school children receive quality care and early education. Their single parents are plugged into a network of supportive services that enable them to complete their education, find jobs and get off of welfare.
Since 1983, Mom’s House® has evolved into a national organization and established a headquarters in Johnstown. There are now nine Mom’s Houses® in four states.
Those young moms who entered the program are now teachers and accountants, nurses and insurance adjusters, medical technicians and engineers and physical therapists. Many of them are married and have had other children.
They prove that Mom’s House® offers hope-filled solutions to single parents faced with the challenge of an unplanned pregnancy.
Mom’s House Lancaster was established in 1991 and recognized as a 501(c)3 in 1992. Since Lancaster’s inception enrollment has gradually increased throughout the years. On average, 15 low-income at-risk single mothers and 18 children are enrolled at Mom’s House. Since 1991, 228 graduations have been celebrated, with over 285 single parents assisted. The Lancaster community saves untold dollars in taxpayer’s money annually due to the removal of these graduates from the welfare system, now they are taxpayers as well.
We believe that mothers have the right to raise their children in conditions of dignity and financial independence. The choice for life does not mean a choice for poverty or welfare.
