Crack sealing crew working on bailey rd today. Use caution or take brodie mt rd if possible.

Looks to be a busy month for the crew. As the leaves start to turn we begin our winter weather preparation along with the preliminary work for the upcoming reclamation and paving work. We are also monitoring the weather as the remnants of tropical storm Gordon works it's way towards us from the west and what if any impacts that Hurricane Florence will have on us later in the week. Today it looks to be nice and it may be a great time for folks to check their gutters, move important items up off of the basement floor and open any culverts you may have on your property.

At last nights selectmens meeting, Our Martin Coryell was recognized for 10 years of service to the town. Congratulations Marty !!

Last night the Selectboard re instituted a ban on dogs in town parks and cemeteries. Unfortunately the continued behavior of some dog owners who refuse to clean up after their pets has ruined it for those who obey the rules. At this time it's a temporary ban while the town comes up with a better plan for enforcement and fines. Dog feces can carry disease and is a health hazard.

Guardrail replacement on old Cheshire road between wooliver roofing and camp mohawk, an alternate route this morning may be a good idea. If not than please use caution.

Putting up a fence in most cases requires a building permit. Please check with our building inspector before you begin your fencing project to make sure the proper setback requirements are met, especially as it pertains to the public right of way. Having to remove it and reinstall it can be expensive.

Once again mother nature has managed to mess up most of the roads we have graded over the last two weeks. The crew will be out once again fixing roads and opening culverts...Not funny mother nature, not funny at all !!!!

A little bit of trivia... the "Indian " streets" on Narragansett Ave. From Jeebee street on the Pittsfield end north to Squanto road are Named after the guy who saw the potential for the growth around Pontoosuc lake, both on the west shore and east shore. Jacob W Wilburs. Each street starts with a letter in his name.

This summers paving projects are as follows and will be full depth reclamation. That means the existing surface is ground into the surface below and re graded making a much sturdier base for the new layers of blacktop giving you a longer lasting surface. Driveway aprons and curbing will be reinstalled where needed. Streets are , Baker st. , Irwin st. , Juleann Dr. And North Main street from Rt.7 to its intersection with Quarry rd. We ask at this time if you have tree branches or brush that hangs out into the road in front of your property that you trim them back or we will have to do it. Also any vehicles or other objects close to the road edge need to be removed. Any Questions feel free to call the D.P.W. garage at 443-1921

Find some ways to beat the heat over the next week as temps rise above 90. Stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, find an air conditioned place to walk, maybe the mall, keep pets cool and watered and remember asphalt will burn the pads of their paws quickly. Check on your elderly neighbors.

Our crews will be working in the narragansett Avenue area adding material to the Indian streets and blacktop patching. Please use caution when traveling that area today. Stay cool it's going to be a hot one !!!🌡🌡🌡

As we continue thru the month of June our annual road grading efforts are on going, hauling material to the lake streets and shaping is currently ongoing. Please help us by trimming your trees and bushes back from the road as to enhance visibility and prevent damage to our equipment.

Hope to see everyone at the memorial day parade. Steps off promptly at 2 from the Old Forge restaurant followed by a ceremony at Center Cemetery and a get together with drinks and snacks at the school bus parking area across the street

We will be adding gravel and grading Gulf Road tomorrow so an alternative route would be advised for the morning commute.

Once again we have to remind folks that they need to keep their dogs on a leash and pick up after them . Animal control was nice enough to make it easy by installing bag dispensers at Narragansett park and Laston park but unfortunately they aren't being utilized and dog droppings are being found both on the playing fields and picnic areas . Allowing your dogs to urinate on the freshly planted trees is killing them. Ultimately this will end up closing the parks completely to dogs if this continues. Please help us keep our parks dog friendly.

Gulf road will be open to thru traffic after 9am this morning.

Our crew will be patching on Old Cheshire road today in the area of Camp Mohawk . Please drive slowly thru that area.
