General information

Education MSPE offers an array of opportunities for engineers to practice professionalism, ethics and responsibility. Regional chapters host educational programs throughout the year. Educational sessions are also abundant during our Annual Conference and through webinars offered by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). MSPE also sponsors regional PE review courses designed to prepare those planning to sit for the Professional Engineers exam. Regulation of Licensed Engineers MSPE works closely with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, and specifically the Board of Professional Engineers, to promote proper licensure to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public.

Any Hydrologists or storm water experts with time to volunteer? ************************* NOV. 11, 2019 UPDATE: The drainage petition we were ready to submit Sept 3 is on hold. Our local neighborhood group was ready to submit a petition on Sept 3. But the drain commissioner suggested they wait for cost estimates. Instead, the county commissioners will vote soon on whether to remove a 36" plate plugging up the drainage stream, as an option, instead of the petition to create an official drainage district through the park lagoons. The drain commissioner thinks this will lower water levels by 17 inches. Problem is most everyone involved knows we need to reduce water levels by 4-5 ft to stop the flooding in the neighborhoods around the park lagoons. So seem like we need to pull in some help, like a hydrologist, as well as a stormwater expert. Any volunteers? Part of the problem keeping the county from acting may be the amounts of fertilizer put on the golf course. (Just a guess because they don't communicate with us.) If the drainage stream is opened, it could force more chemical fertilizer into our waterways. So how do other golf course handle fertilizer run off? Certain fertilizers can create toxic algae, so we don't want that! Stay tuned to see what happens! And if you would like to support our efforts to stop the flooding, restore the park and get the inside scoop, join our group @FixtheLagoonsGroup. Just shoot us an email: [email protected]
Please send congratulations to Leonard J. Krause, on 50 years of being a PE!
Engineering Friends: The Michigan Society of Professional Engineers is looking for a Vice President for the Northern Region of Michigan. The new VP would help to represent the members from the Upper Peninsula and the northern 1/3 of the lower mitten. The district extends south to Manistee, Cadillac, and West Branch. Are you a member of MSPE in this area? Do you know any colleagues in that area that would be a good leader and representative? We have a big year ahead of us and we need a good leadership team to help the organization accomplish the vision of nearly 1000 members. Give me a call or send me a note if you have some ideas. Leadership opportunities like this are incredibly valuable in your personal and professional lives. Thanks for the help! Scott Conners, P.E. MSPE President Elect 2017-2018
Dear MSPE Members: Earlier today we accepted the resignation of our Executive Director, Shada Biabani. Shada has accepted a position as the Executive Director of the Michigan Water Environment Association (MWEA). Shada will remain with MSPE through next week with her last official day being April 13th. This is a critical time for MSPE as we work diligently to prepare for our annual conference coming up May 3-4th. We can assure you that many volunteers are stepping up to ensure that this event is a first class conference. We are working closely with the Western Chapter to serve as our hosts for the Grand Rapids event. The MWEA has also graciously agreed to let Shada assist with the conference preparation and attendance. It will give us a chance to say “thank you” and to wish her well in her new adventure. Our Personnel Committee has met to discuss the vacancy and will be working with the Board of Directors over the next few weeks and months to help find both a short and long term solution. I can assure you that we will invest whatever time is necessary to keep MSPE on stable footing through this transition. Please feel free to contact President, Rob Wheeler, or myself with any questions you may have. Thanks for your support and patience! Scott Conners, P.E. President Elect 2017-2018
