The Board of State Canvassers must certify the election results that have been certified by all 83 counties. Without delay.

An audit will take place after certification.

Letter: Transporting hazardous materials on Ambassador Bridge threatens Detroiters

Check out this important oped by Kim Hunter, a Hubbard Farms resident, about the Ambassador Bridge wanting to be allowed more hazmat cross.

"What we want is simple — our health and safety. DIBC’s request puts our communities at unacceptable risk and should be rejected. Believe me, it’s what you would want for your family, too."

It is necessary for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and MDOT to keep hazardous materials off the Ambassador Bridge, Hunter writes.

Stephanie Chang: Pass water shutoff moratorium in lame duck

We won't be able to even make our way out of the third COVID-19 surge unless we ensure people have water to wash their hands — one of the most basic steps people can take to reduce the chance they become infected and to slow the spread of the virus.

The fact of the matter is, many Michigan families — in the Upper Peninsula, in the suburbs of Detroit, on the west side of the state, and everywhere in between — are struggling, and according to state data, more than 317,000 Michigan households have already demonstrated a need for addressing water access.

We need to pass Senate Bill 241 (S1) during our lame duck session -- to save lives.

Read my op-ed in today's Crain's. #MILEG

Thank you Gretchen Whitmer for this long needed action to protect our water, our public health, and Pure Michigan.

There were numerous violations of this easement over the years by Enbridge and so I am grateful that our Governor is prioritizing people's health and safety. #Line5

Enbridge received permission from Michigan to locate the Line 5 pipeline on the Great Lakes bottomlands in the Straits of Mackinac in 1953.

Cannot overstate this. Democracy should be celebrated not undermined. Thank the thousands of election workers especially those who worked grueling hours with challengers violating social distancing and mask guidelines close by, intentionally trying to intimidate them as they did their jobs. #democracydefenders

Incredibly disappointed that SB 241, to codify the exec order ensuring that Michiganders do not have their water shutoff during COVID-19, was pulled from the Senate agenda today.

Out of more than 76,000 households in Michigan that have been impacted, more than 36,000 households are outside Detroit - this is a statewide issue. These families are in small townships, suburban towns, and large cities.

People can't wash their hands with soap & water if they do not have access to water.

During this pandemic, so many families have faced health issues & economic insecurity they never before endured.

The last thing they should have to worry about is whether they have water #mileg

Democracy won today!! Lots of energy and turnout.

Election Day may be over, but the 2020 election will be done when every vote is counted!

Huge shoutout to Jocelyn Benson, all the local clerks, and every pollworker for your incredible work during this unprecedented time.

Also, I must express gratitude for all those who got Proposal 3 (Promote the Vote) passed in 2018. ACLU of Michigan

Without your work, neither this election's historic numbers of absentee ballots cast nor many of the new registered voters in MI (like the thousands who registered and voted today) would be possible.🗳👍🎉

US judge blocks Trump immigration rule on public benefits

Good news yesterday!

“As we all continue to be impacted by COVID-19, it is vital that no one is fearful of accessing health care. The court’s decision to block enforcement of the Public Charge Rule re-opens doors for immigrants to access vital services like health care," Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said in a statement.

A federal judge in Chicago has struck down a Trump administration rule that would deny green cards to immigrants who use food stamps or other public benefits.

Change recount law to ensure fair elections | Opinion

Now seems like as good a time as any to re-up my op-ed from three years ago.

We still need to fix our recount law so that, in the event a recount is called, every vote can be recounted.

I've got a bill for that -- Senate Bill 164. #VOTE #mileg

can we do a virtual coffee hour about plans for changes in the juvenile, family court, foster care system? A lot of us asked about this at another coffee hour. Please, so many citizens are invested in reform. #familieslivesmattertoo #familesmattertoo
I'm not impressed and downright disappointed. Ms Chang doesn't deserve another term in the Senate for her blatant neglect of Black child welfare affected families. Oh and she can't say she didn't know that child welfare reform was an issue that needed her attention because I myself have reached out to Ms. Chang countless times over the last two years both before and after I founded @NAFPAorg, even spoke to a high ranking staff member about child welfare reform, especially as it relates to Back families, and more importantly about what policies and bills I wanted her to introduce on behalf of her constituents and I got NOWHERE! Instead, I was told what she couldn't do for American citizens, especially Black Americans (oh and I could never get a one on one with her either for some reason). This woman has been a tireless advocate for EVERYONE ELSE and EVERY OTHER GROUP but Black people (in a majority Black city no less) especially when it comes down to child welfare reform and actually addressing the racist and white supremacist child welfare system which continues to target and permeantly destroy countless Black families here in Michigan (while railing against temporary family separation for non-citizens which already have plenty of help). One again, speaking as both a consutituent and president-director of NAFPA, I urge and demand that Ms Chang introduce an African American Child Welfare Act, repeal ASFA bill and reinstatement of parental rights legislation!!! She must do this soon if she wants NAFPA'S enforcement. But I must say, Ms Chang's (who is a social worker I might add) track record or lack thereof in the case is very damaging and harmful for getting the support of NAFPA or Black people. After all, she's done absolutely NOTHING regarding child welfare reform or for Black families at all but specifically to protect Black children, parents and families from the slavery that is the American child welfare system. And therefore, I'm not going to hold my breath and I have my "Bye Bye and good riddance to Stephanie Chang social media campaign" ready to go. Feel free to contact me via pm or at [email protected] if you actually want to do something about child welfare reform which is desperately needed here in Michigan.
Senator, what the hell are you thinking to vote yes on House bill # 5672. This is unconstitutional invasion of our bodies, this will not be tolerated. This is assault and battery, this is a crime. If you don't know what punitive and statue damages are you should not be voting on this. Shame on you!!! REALLY!!! THIS BILL HAS TO BE KILLED BEFORE THIS GETS TO THE FLOOR.Are you willing to get a device planted in you so you can work?? you took a oath to protect the constitution. STAND UP TO IT!
Ms Chang, maybe you should work at setting an example both on and off camera. Frankly there is no such thing as off camera unless you are inside your own home.
Hey Stephanie, i know this is out of your jouristiction but I heard yesterday that Skillsville, a really cool gym on Livernois in the avenue of fashion, is closing due to the feds rejecting their covid-19 assistance. Is there anyway the city or state can help? I would love to get this to the governor, but i tried sending messages and they are swamped, i have gotten no reply. It was heartbreaking to hear it. Skillsville was primarly (sp) a gymnastic center that taught all skills but they also had numerous other athletic pursuits that kids could get into. I covered Skillsville for a special project for the Michigan Chronicle. Here is my bio and website. Im gonna try to find the owners info and contact him to see if there is any chance it can reopen, since word is they have offically closed. Detroit needs more places like this, not less.
SkillsVille should be helped by the state and the city since the feds let them down
"DO NOT extend the Governor's emergency powers! Demand that she works with legislature for common sense solutions to OPEN NOW."
Michigan needs to open and get back to work. Business owners are responsible enough to make their workplace safe. Please open up rural Michigan!
Please consider advising the governor to make landscapers essential. Many elderly use our service and can't do it themselves. Tick season is here and the over growth will be a health concern. And many places will also have vermin problems. Landscaping is not just about making your lawn look pretty. It is about safety longer grass, mosquitoes get worse. How many more illnesses are we going to cause by saying landscaping is not essential? Lyme disease, zika?? What do rats carry? This is a problem. And many landscaping businesses have only one person. You can put restrictions on how many people per vehicle. Please help, most people that hire landscapers are people that can't do it themselves. And So many other States have landscaping as essential.
Why can’t PP donate their PPEs? Abortions and Pap smears are non essential surgeries! Emergency abortions are done at hospitals anyway!
You were wonderful last night! So glad to have gotten to see you speak in person. Keep up the great work.
