It appears Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Dr. Khaldun sought to capitalize on the tragic death of this baby to frighten Michiganders.

I urge them to apologize to this grieving family, and to motivate the people of our state not with fear but with honesty and openness.

Republicans and Democrats in Lansing have found ways to work together during this crisis. But the governor has repeatedly refused to be part of the team, insisting on governing alone and vetoing bipartisan bills. That's the opposite of teamwork.

Michigan needs transparency from Whitmer administration

Today, citizens are being told to put their faith in government’s actions without being shown the data behind those actions. And government is holding citizens accountable to comply with its mandates without citizens knowing the data and information that drives those mandates. We have no idea why the government is making the decisions that it is.

We need transparency from Governor Gretchen Whitmer on how she is making her decisions. We need her to share clear benchmarks, that when met, restore our rights. And we need her to trust Michiganders to do the right thing.

PROJECT:
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close the westbound I-94 ramp to westbound M-60 on Wednesday to shift traffic to the newly constructed westbound M-60 ramp. This work is part of the ongoing I-94 Corridor Project.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS:
The closure will occur from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. Eastbound M-60 traffic heading for westbound I-94 will be detoured to eastbound I-94, then take the Airport Road exit and head back to westbound I-94. Westbound I-94 traffic heading for westbound M-60 will be detoured via southbound US-127, westbound I-94 Business Loop (Michigan Avenue), and M-50 (West Avenue) back to westbound M-60. Follow posted detours. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.

These improvements will provide increased safety and mobility in this area of the I-94, which is a significant local, national and international trade corridor.

Small businesses in Michigan have been crippled by Governor Gretchen Whitmer's shutdown. Now, she's using the State Police to threaten their closure for not complying with her 160-plus confusing and contradictory executive orders.

Transparency about decision-making, not intimidation, is the best way to encourage safe behaviors.

As coronavirus cases rise in Michigan — and enforcement of social distancing rules is spotty statewide — the governor orders state police to enforce her executive orders like any other law and requires state agencies to consider pulling licenses of violators.

Going It Alone

“We’re all in this together.”

You’ve heard this a lot from Governor Gretchen Whitmer in 2020. But in reality, this has been a year where she has too often gone it alone, often with unfortunate consequences.

Our founding fathers knew what they were doing when they established a system that requires compromise rather than one-person rule.

This week in the Michigan Senate, we saw a great example of working together. We passed bipartisan bills to balance the state’s budget, which has been ravaged by the closure of Michigan’s economy for much of 2020.

We did this by cutting state spending – including our own budget – not by raising taxes.

At the same time, we approved federal relief funds to help our schools, local communities and first responders dealing with the effects of the coronavirus. And again, we did this without a tax hike.

We balanced the budget and appropriated these funds because we worked together – Republicans and Democrats, Legislature and Governor.

Unfortunately, this kind of cooperation has been all too rare in 2020.

I hope our governor takes note of the success that came from working together. A budget balanced without tax increases. Funding for those on the front lines of the fight against COVID.

Senator - I am aware that there is legislation regarding the mail-in vote process that would speed the count and produce the results in a timely manner. Hopefully, you will work to improve on past performances that saw the August election results returned late, as well as previous failures to provide working voting machines and appropriate numbers of polling sites. As a Republican of 40 years standing, I am repeatedly disappointed by the failure of the Michigan legislature to address these issues. In canvassing my friends, church members and neighbors, I find that I am far from alone. Given the volatile nature of the upcoming election, it would be well to show that Michigan brooks no interference with our Constitutional right to free and fair elections. I thank you in advance for your efforts to ensure that the citizens of Michigan can count on their representatives.
