The Legislature and the Governor are working together to lead our state forward through the Covid mess. It has been a long day at the Capitol. It is now almost 12:30 AM on Wednesday and we are finishing up business from Tuesday. We are tackling many issues relating to the Secretary of State and those offices being reopened, the UIA debacle, nursing home policies, liability protections, and many other topics. This picture was taken tonight during a break for supper.

Edit: Here is a press release with more details about the relevant issues.

I really enjoyed my time at Engelhard Family Farms today!

This morning we had the privilege of welcoming State Representative Phil Green and aid Hannah Bryan to the farm! You might recall that Amy's photo was selected the winner in the Summer Somewhere in the Thumb Photo Contest sponsored by Rep. Green last fall (see tractor photo - she named it Determination).

Unfortunately, due to COVID, Amy was unable to personally attend the opportunity to come to Lansing to unveil her picture in Rep. Green's office and to experience a Legislative Session day, so she invited him to the farm!

It was a busy morning talking about the upcoming harvest season, news and politics, and getting to know each other a little better.

Many thanks to Rep. Green and Hannah for visiting us today; please come back anytime!

The Michigan House of Representatives has declared a statewide day of prayer and fasting on September 24.

Read the language of the resolution below:

HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 302
"A resolution to declare September 24, 2020, as a Day of Prayer, Fasting, and Humiliation in the state of Michigan.
Whereas, Our state and nation cries out in pain, grief, anxiety, and worry; and

Whereas, We restate the proclamation of President Lincoln: "it is fit and becoming in all people, at all times, to acknowledge and revere the Supreme Government of God," and "that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."; and

Whereas, We humbly ask almighty God in accordance with His sovereignty to heal our land of calamities, division, anger, and strife; and

Whereas, We further quote President Lincoln to, "earnestly recommend to all the People, and especially to all ministers and teachers of religion of all denominations, and to all heads of families, to observe and keep that day according to their several creeds and modes of worship, in all humility and with all religious solemnity, to the end that the united prayer of the nation may ascend to the Throne of Grace and bring down plentiful blessings upon our Country"; and

Whereas, We have confidence that in accordance with God's will, our nation and state will be healed and unified; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare September 24, 2020, as a Day of Prayer, Fasting, and Humiliation in the state of Michigan."

Day in the life of Lansing:

Last night I was able to vote on one of the most practical bills of my term so far. HB 4717 allows Michigan residents to use traditional gas cans made in Michigan rather than cans with self-venting pour spouts. The bill is now awaiting senate action.

Rep. Green: Michigan Legislature approves back-to-school plan - Mi House Repubs

Parents should have a voice in how schools educate their kids at all times – including during the COVID-19 pandemic. This plan provides a pathway for parents and the entire community to be involved every step of the way as schools reopen for the new academic year.

I am pleased to support a plan that emphasizes local control while providing certainty and stable funding for schools.

Rep. Phil Green today voted in favor of a back-to-school plan prioritizing health for students and teachers, parental and community involvement in decision-making, and financial stability for districts.

There has been rumors rumbling in regards to the defunding of the State Police and Corrections in EO 2020-155. This is only a partial truth. The whole truth is that because of how the Federal Govt designed the CARES Act to the states, we were able to use federal money for the salaries of the SP and Corrections. In fixing our budget hole, we used the federal dollars to pay their salaries and then reduced the line item proportionally. In the end, there is no defunding.

I, as many of you, am concerned and confused with the most current edict from our Governor. Saturday morning I will be meeting with several other Representatives and our Legal council to learn about these edicts and what our next steps are. Please allow my legal team the time to help us understand what our options are as we move forward to safely reopen our state.

Mr. Green, The Secretary of State just suspended one of our constitutional rights by banning the open carry of firearms in a polling place on election day. Does she have the legal right to do this?
Self preservation is a basic human right. You, the rest of the state legislators, staff and visitors deserve the ability to defend themselves while in the capital building. Please vote no to banning firearms in the capital.
So about MDHHS 🤔
So what does the Michigan Supreme Court ruling mean for us right now? Like mandating that all students must wear masks all day beginning October 8. Does that mean that is no longer in effect?
I just read a story that the gouverner is building a 8 ft electrified fence around the governor's residence , and our tax dollars are paying for it..... can you shed some light on this? Was it already in this years budget, is it something she decided to do on her own? Is the story true according to the Detroit free press it's costing about 1.1 million dollars of tax payer money for security upgrade?
Hi Phil, Can You PM me I have a friend that needs your help concerning the Secretary of State William Officer
Just wondering if things are moving along with Michigan Supreme Court on Whitmer abuse of power ruling in a week or two. If the do rule in favor of freedom what happens after that? Does everything go back to normal and then do governor, house and senate come up with a game plan? Just wondering. Thanks.
Please watch this! Doctors on Capitol Hill....cure for covid.
This is a must watch. I hope and pray our representatives are fighting as hard as we are to Unlock Michigan.
There is no socialist agenda Phil Green ,you have become so enamored with your fascist leader that you have lost touch with the American people.
Walmart starting July 20 th will require wearing a Mask to gain entry ! It boils down to each store enforcing the mask rule . And people doing the right thing. Republican leaders need to get in board so w can beat this pandemic
